XCOM: Enemy Unknown

<div style="width: 500px; text-align: center" align="center">
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is the latest title in a series with a lot of great gaming history. Since 1994, XCOM has pitted players against an alien invasion. At its most basic, XCOM is a turned base strategy game that puts you in the role of base commander (where you can build new weapons, upgrade and expand your base and keep up on current events around the world) and squad leader (where you take on missions to eliminate a host of evil aliens).

Largely known for its turn-based ground combat, strategy, and depth, the XCOM series had not seen a new title since 1998. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a reboot from a developer new to the series, Firaxis Games, primarily known for their work on Civilization and other Sid Meier titles.

For those of you who loved the previous XCOM games, while not a direct sequel, Enemy Unknown keeps much of the feel, including depth of development, choices, and strategy. The choices you make have a noticeable impact on the game. You can spend hours building, equipping and getting to know your squad members even changing their names and helping them get promoted. But if you make the wrong decision and lose a member of your squad in the field, they simply die for good.

The other half of the game is spent in the base commander role where you can build facilities in your underground base, ranging from satellites and weapon shops to generators and research facilities. Even here your choices are important, as in deciding to increase the coverage of your satellites to stop countries from panicking or deciding to focus on weapons so you have a better chance of stopping the invasions your satellites pick up.

Whatever choices you make will determine the fate of the earth. Complete victory or utter defeat. This war against alien terror is one you don?t want to miss.

It looks very cool, but I was never into sim type games.

Well I just watched a couple demos on the game, and being I really don't generally like sim type games, I'm going to get it it's pretty bad ass!

the first XCOM was so BA very addictive back in the golden age of doom 2 and duke nukem 3d and shadow warrior, I didn't really care for the 2nd or 3rd installments of the series but I may have to pick this one up if it goes on sale if its anything like the original.
