Questions on hardware combination

Wish I had seen this sooner, but that ram is just ridiculously priced, even if it was a 2x8gb kit. I really am at a loss why you think you needed 2800 speed which is of little use to anyone beyond a benchmarker, especially when you realize that 16gb is overkill for what you need.

You are perhaps correct in that I did not need RAM quite that fast, but I plan to use part of it as a RAM disk in a bioinformatics research project for my computer science B.S. Obviously anything past 1600-1800mhz will not do anything for my gaming.

I also do overclocking, but probably not enough to fully utilize the 2800mhz. I would need to use lN2 or lHe2 for that.

Seems that due to the New Year holiday, Newegg had some backlog after they came back to work on the 2nd. My CPU is probably not going to get to me until Monday, so I can't do the build this weekend.

You're creating a cpu bottleneck there. That 3770 altho very potent won't ever allow you to push hard on that dual gpu board. Also, i'd stick in 16gigs of ram instead of 8, even if its some 1833, get a cheaper lga2011 motherboard that probably has more than enough bells and whistles (the p9x series are awesome overclockers) and drop in a 3820 that does 4.6 without a sweat on an h80. you'd come close to the same budget envelope, with more juice to brag on about. And look into gigabyte motherboards (the ud3 is freakin nice if you content with only 4 dimmslots). Rock solid.
