Internet Connectivity/Router Issues

So for the past month or so, I've been having issues with my internet connection and/or router.

I've repeatedly ran the 'Diagnose' option on the connection, and on occasion it'll come up with one or more of the following errors:

Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding

Investigate router or broadband modem issues
(Insert Steps for restarting modem/router here)

The default gateway is not available

'Local Area Connection' doesn't have a valid IP configuration

I'm assuming it's a faulty router/device, and needs replaced, but any help would greatly be appreciated.

Also, if it helps, ISP is Qwest/CenturyLink (Originally Qwest until CL bought them out)

start> run> cmd
type in ipconfig
tell us what it says.

I HIGHLY doubt he is going to give us IP's straight from CMD.

If you havent already - Contact Century link. Or just redo the settings on the router menu when you type in the IP like

192.168.0.1 and edit the settings back to factory settings. Most provided routers have a little sticker with all the settings on it.

Why not? It's only local ip address, they are identical for everyone.

Power cycling your router (unplug and let it sit for 20-30 seconds draining any residing power from capacitors within your router) will resolve the issue but you could also put in a manual DNS server address like 8.8.8.8 and the alternate of 8.8.4.4 (Google public DNS addresses) and see if that helps. As a side note, you can enter a specific DNS address and continue to let your router issue an ip address (aka DHCP) so don't feel like you need to have a static ip address. Let me know if you need further assistance with attempting what I've suggested.

I know it's PK5000..Can't remember if Z (Or is Z the only model?)

It tells you what the model is on the router its self.

If its ZyXEL then its the PK5000Z. The Z stands for their company name.

If there is no Z then it is Actiontec or something of that sort.

The standard modems for Century link is ZyXEL modem/router.

But meh. Im not great with internet. As I said - Just call. It doesnt take more then 10 minutes out of the day and they can probably asses the situation over the phone.

Eh, I posted that without bothering to go look since it's in another room then the computer I use is in. But yea, based off a quick google search (Yes, I'm that lazy right now..been busy all week :P ), I'm pretty certain it isn't the Z due to the shape (mines more oval, where-as the Z is square)

I've already tried power cycling it quite a bit (which the 2nd Error message I listed shows in the steps that come up), and while it helps for a little bit, it just goes right back to it's problematic state.

I still have yet to get in touch with CenturyLink customer support since I prefer the chatline over calling, and yesterday the site was undergoing routine maintenance and afterwards there was a long queue'd line of 35+ users.

So did you attempt to set a static DNS address? I know you mentioned you're tired but you are asking others for help and you aren't doing everything we're asking you to do unless you just haven't posted results to those suggestions. Keep everyone posted with results when we've offered solutions so we can further help resolve the issue at hand. Thanks!

When I said I was lazy at the moment it was more-so a simple joke then it was serious. :P

But to answer your question - not yet..I'll check on that tomorrow with my mom since she's the one that technically owns the modem & computer which I'm using. ;)

It's a few simple clicks that doesn't interfere with anything. If it doesn't change anything we click the "obtain DNS address automatically" bullet point and you're back to default. If you really do have to ask for permission then I guess go ahead. I just want to make sure you understand the simplicity before you ask for permission for something that isn't a big deal. You don't have to contact your service provider to do this as it's an option within the operating system itself. ;)

I've had problems as well, but its the AT&T and Uverse, I called and they had an outage in 18 states. It could be possible that you're just having an outage.
