Steam is sucky!

I have been trying to update steam all day!

I am running windows 7 and when I try to update, it either updates extremely slow or just gets a fatal error.

I tried doing THIS but the data was already set to 0.

I also tried going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Steam Client Services. I click on properties and I tried setting the startup type to automatic and that made it even slower.

Someone recommended I tried updating it in safemode as well because that sometimes works. NOPE. It made it even SLOWER.

It wants to update, but when I try to update it, it goes abnormally slow. Like downloading 1 KB per second slow.

I have also restarted my router and that has not worked as well!

If anyone knows a fix please help!

Mine's doing this too sortof. I update it then 5 minutes later it wants to update again. I've just ended up canceling it when it goes to update. Really annoying though.

EDIT: Just read your problem... Nothing like mine Hope somebody can help.

This update is awful. Currently attempting to update as they decided to release updates for all/most Source based games. Bring on the bugs/crashed/un-updated servers

I managed to get in fine with no hassle, although after I exited CSS just a few mins ago downloads started showing up for the Source games.
