This is a repost from the opx forums on the topic of path of exiles economy
crafting recipes skill gems and and estimated currency exchange rates

This is a list of all known vendor recipes , path of exile contains the usual buy and sell mechanics of any game , however there are also included many sell combinations that enable the user to get more bang for their buck depending on what combinations of items they want sold.
for example a common white item is worthless , but if one were to sell a common item with three linked sockets of each of the three color types (red green and blue). They would get a chrome orb instead of a worthless wisdom fragment .
As for those lovely orbs you get while murdering half of god's creation

This is a rough table of exchange rates for all the relevant orbs in the game
If an orb isn't on that list .. it is worthless or priceless.
NOTE! this is just an estimated exchange rate and is not set in stone , certain orbs are worth more to different people at different times
And just a fun bonus for all those who want to see what skills they might get for their new characters .

This is a table of quest rewards and the gems rewarded per character
Note this list was last updated in the closed beta before act 3 and is thus outdated , however the rewards for act 1 and act 2 normal are about the same
and it is assumed the other rewards will be given in roughly the same order as they were in the closed beta.

this table is being updates to take into account the open beta so it should start be alot more accurate
