SSD suggestion

So one of the things im gonna treat myself to once I pay off my loan will be a nice brand new ssd for my system. However I need some help understanding the controllers. I recently heard that Samsung created their own controller for their 840 series ssd & apparently has been getting great feedback on it.

I was hoping to talk specifically with reflex on Steam, but he wasnt available, so I figured this was a good backup idea. Please feel free to post links to info bout the controllers. Ive heard that the Sandforce controller sucks big time (read plenty bout its speed & reliability issues). Also seeing as how the price has been dropping big time, I was originally gonna go for a 90gb ssd, but the price seems to be favoring the 120gb ssd now.

My plan is to get an ssd (strictly for OS of course). I have a 500gb thats slowly fading on me (has made whining noises in the past, but its purring right now) but over the pre-Black Friday sales, I got a 1tb drive for a really good deal, so im gonna set that up in its place. Really have no idea what im gonna do with the 500gb tho.

I recently built a new rig & had the same decisions when it came to which SSD to run with. I did a lot of wavering between Corsair Neutron series & the Samsung 830. I went with the 830 recently swapped it out with the 840 pro

As you stated I also read great reviews on their SSD controller & I kind of liked the 3-core MDX. I have had no regrets with my choice & in-fact have installed both a 840 & 840 pro in 2 other rigs I have build for others.

The speed of the Samsung had been great & I really like their Samsung magician
software

I have to agree with the 840 Pro Samsung SSD, its the only SSD I have had luck with that gives its TRUE speeds to what the box says on Sata 3, and keeps those solid speeds. Other SSD i have had except for PCI slotted ones, have said like 555/510 speeds, but i get like 430/112 speeds on them on sata 3. The Samsung has held up to its true speed and hasnt dropped down on me.
