So I had the opportunity to chat with the developers behind [ame=http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1312036782/project-awakened]the brilliant concept of Project Awakened[/ame] and posed the question of whether or not we could anticipate things such as custom, player-owned multiplayer servers and the ability to modify them to the authors and owners liking with custom content through mod kits and toolkits. Thus was their response:

TL;DR: It appears to me that the developers at Phosphor Studio have a clear concept of how to innovate in the market, returning to the roots of what makes multiplayer gaming great and avoiding the trope of an MMO format -- distinctly providing the players the true freedom necessary through allowing them to construct, host, and maintain player-owned servers and custom content through server hosting, mod kits and tool kits.
If you're as excited about Project Awakening as I am, this little blip should be big news!

RUNO: So to put it succinctly: is there any chance we can anticipate the possibility of "bare-bones" multiplayer so we can host servers of our own accord and modify these servers and add custom content, especially if the budget is met or overshot?
PA DEVELOPERS:
Hi Andy,
What you said is actually what we are hoping to do. We hope to give rough tools to allow you to host the game for the beta. Sorry my answer isn't longer but I couldn't have put it better myself
Thanks for your interest in the game as well as for a very well thought out question!
RUNO: That sounds perfect to me! Thanks so much for the response and best of luck to you lot in your endeavors -- I can't wait to see a project this exciting in action!
