Black Outs

So, last summer, I suffered from ALOT of power outages, causing my pc to feel incredibly slow & corrupting my harddrive files. I'm afraid that this will begin once more in the upcoming summer. What are some good ways to protect my PC from black outs?

I'd suggest looking into a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), there's many varieties available dependent on your need.

Some that basically act as a power surge protector & offer a few minutes of back-up run time off the battery of the UPS, therefore giving you time to power down your equipment. To ones that have longer back-up run time & other features.

I assume you just looking to protect your PC, not a server or other things? IF so you don't need something big, just something with enough UPS and surge to protect the PC from a surge & give you time to power down.

500 va is usually good enough for a computer and 17 inch monitor, I'd suggest 700 if you have a "real" gaming rig, bigger monitor(s), Modem & Router you want to use with it.

60 bucks, that seems reasonable. I did some research on UPSes the other day, but it was not easy finding them. Will look for it when i go to Paris for the holidays.

Cronus, go to apc.com and if you want one what will run a pretty long time, get a 1500 watt ++.
I use an older 1500 watt APC brand battery back up and just last summer I went to a local battery store and bought the 2 batteries that go in it and it's even better now, it will my computer, 32' tv/monitor, and the Motorola combo router/model going for up to about 45 minutes.
