TF2 First Experience

Years and years ago (8 to be exact), my brother built himself a computer. He looked at his computer, and he saw that it was good, and he was pleased. Then he started to clean up the boxes, and he noticed a slip of paper in his graphics card box. He saw that it was a coupon for the black box (yes, black box, not orange box), which had beta access for TF2, the HL2 episodes, and portal. He played HL2 and portal, and saw that they were good as well. Then he played TF2. He also thought it was pretty good, but he wasn't very interested in the multiplayer, no singleplayer, kind of thing, so he gave me his steam account. I played TF2 for a few days, but was too young to really appreciate it.

Jump to 5 years later. I got really involved in both HL2 and Garry's Mod. I had a friend who, when he heard that I played these games, asked me if I wanted to play TF2. I told him no, I'm building a huge contraption and killing headcrabs, maybe another day. My friend never stopped pestering me, but then when I went off to highschool, we went to different schools, and I rarely saw him afterwards.

Jump to the end of Freshmen year, I'm supposed to be studying for finals, but I just can't get focused. Two of my friends are talking about a game, but I don't recognize it from their conversation. One of them yells out in exasperation, "I'm so bored right now, I wish I could play some TF2!" I look down at my computer. I've had this game installed for years, but have barely played it. I turn to my friend and say, "Sure you can, I've got it right here." He looked at me with surprise, and he started up TF2. Looking at my inventory, it was completely empty except for my service badge, so he promptly logged out of my account and into his. (Funnily enough, he now plays mostly vanilla) He was a member of eGO, though I had no idea what that was at the time, and an avid Blackmesa fan. We would take turns playing, switching off after every death. I played scout, he played spy. Watching him play spy, I grew determined to get good enough at the game that I could play spy as well as he could, so I started playing all the time. My friends recruited me into eGO after a month or two, and I've always held a love for Blackmesa, the first map I've ever played.

Almost two years later, and I am a proud member of Edge Gamers. I am glad to be a part of a community that loves this game as much as I do. Who recruited me? I'll never tell :P

I got it 2 days after launch by accident. My wife was going to a store by the local Gamestop so I asked her to pick me up an xbox 360 game. The guy behind the counter recommended it so she went ahead & bought it.
The first time I played TF2 I remember joining a match on 2fort, jumping off the battlements and falling into the water. I got mixed up & went back through my teams sewer & all the way down to the intel...and wondering why can't I pick up the intel. Then I somehow managed to get lost in my own base.
Needless to say I hated it, mainly because I was in the beta for COD4 so that dominated my gaming time. But then we had the great xbox live outage of 07 and for some reason TF2 was the only MP game that would work for me on xbox live.
Then in the spring they announced the Medic update & then the Pyro update by the time the HWG update released I was already tired of waiting for the "coming soon":sneaky2: 360 update so I bought a decent pc so I could play with the new toys. The day the Heavy update launched was the first time I ever played a mp pc game. I found an eGO server that weekend & I've been playing on eGO servers ever since.

I got tf2 right before it became f2p, because valve loves me. I played 24/7 2fort like everyone else, and didn't really like the game. I branched out to other maps, rotations, and other things as time went by. 500+ hours in to the game I was still pretty bad, but I enjoyed the game. I eventually began getting pretty good at this game and decided to try a more competitive environment, so I started going to glorified pubs, aka lobbies. Seeing better players, I decided to improve myself and mained scout, and eventually got on a highlander team that sadly disappeared before the season started. I played more, tried more custom game modes and maps and eventually became pretty shmexy at fire-guy if I may say so, and am currently on a steel highlander team.

What really attracted me to this game was the team-focus compared to games like fish and battlefiled or other modern fps games.

tl;dr started in 2fort, was bad in forever, became good with competitive, fire guy is best guy, AMERICA

Before TF2, I played Unreal games and a mod for Battlefield 1942 called Desert Combat.

I saw a trailer for TF2, and when I saw the spy uncloak and stab a sniper I thought it looked pretty cool, so I got the Orange Box in late 07.

All I remember from my first game was that it was on cp_granary and I played spy. Not sure how I did though, haha

Oh, one more thing.

I didn't find either intel room in 2fort for a couple days :x

Personal thank you for posting that. I really love stabby. He was my inspiration to switch and main spy.

I like him. He's a thinking Spy who plays mind-games.

The video itself pretty much sums up why I enjoy HL and competitive TF2 in general.

I was born playing tf2 like an MLG legit boss... nah i played it on the orange box a little bit didn't care for it watched video's of PC gameplay wishing i had it got it on steam... like a week or two before it went F2P and was natrually pretty good at it. Probably top 3 classes Scout Solider Pyro Not in that order they're tied

I think I started a month or a couple before the first hat update. Actually I think it might've been even earlier... *checks from Steam* May 24, 2009, so that would make it... Around when the first Spy update came out. Man that was fun. I loved playing the Spy.

As for my first server/map, I don't really remember. It might've been 2fort, but I'm not sure. My first real memories were from playing some custom koth maps on a different gaming community's servers as well as their warpath one. It wasn't too long after when I discovered eGO's now late and dead low-gravity Toyfort server that I loved a lot and then later moved onto the awesome Blackmesa.

Blackmesa is awesome.

will my story goes like this
i started watching youtube on daily bassis in 2008 it replaced tv for me so one day i just starred by watching random gameplay and then i stumbled upon shiobby2142 channel and the first video i watched on his channel was tf2 spy i really liked how the game was so relaxed unlike cod and cs so i keep watching gameplay due to the fact i never had great computer so when i started college i saw some guys playing cs go and i asked them was it allowed to install steam they said yes and since the new year i been playing tf2 and 3 thing i found out where

spy default loudout sucks
spy is a beast no matter what loadout you use
and ego community is the best gaming community

I think I got TF2 somewhere around last November, I started to play scout on 2fort. I got the intel a few times but I was consistently killed by sentry guns, I then switched to medic and would heal people heading in the sewers. Didn't get the intel as many times then, but at least I was helping out my team.
