The recently recovered portion of a journal that belonged to a former soldier found at Tiergartenstra?e 4 in Berlin in 1945.

Outskirts of Nightingale, Sweden, 3rd of April

Not long after our brave men captured Finland from the enemy we had settled down for a well deserved rest. I was injured pretty badly before the assault and only heard of the victory and asked to be transferred to rejoin my unit since my injury was healing very nicely. Its funny though, to get shot in the ass when scouting in the night by a friendly lad called J?rgen Braun, aka Pewww. Luckily it only crippled my right ass cheek but I digress from what I am writing about. Two months of rest among these Finns has done miracles to the men, we are all in high spirits and confident that we will take Sweden. We are about to leave right now so I'll have to keep it short. It is odd though, since the leader of my squad, Anni, is nowhere to be found! I guess his second in command Nuke will take over. But now we need to get going and kick some Yankee arsch!

Nightingale, Sweden, Finland, 4th of April

We were beaten. The Allied schweine were ready for us. They had superior positions and our men were like waves hitting a stone wall, useless. We did our best. But those damn crop fields were covering the enemy and we couldn't see them and they had set fences all around the place so more than once our men hit the posts of the fence instead of the head of the enemy! We fought bravely in many instances and at one point we were able to take half of the village but then they pushed us back to the outskirts. I believe this was partly the fault of my squad leader Anni, who we found passed out in a ditch in Frostvale after a heavy night of drinking with the Finnish. He had apparently challenged a fellow called Tomi Veckman to a drinking contest and lost soundly. But once again I digress, I can't seem to concentrate on anything other than killing these days... This war is starting to take its toll on me. I guess the horrors of war are rough indeed, I believe it now. But our unit is going to be dispatched to Denmark right away after a loss. I look forward on getting some payback!

Calais, Denmark, 27th of April

So here we are. Calais. It is pretty funny that there is a town called Calais in both France and Denmark. Perhaps the architect in Denmark was drunk or something when he gave the town its name? In any case, we will defend it to our best ability. I miss the cold of Finland. It reminded me of my home back in the mountains of Klagenfurt. More and more often my thoughts wander back to my family. I haven't heard anything from them since I was sent to Finland. Partly that is because our "noble" commander wewo has ordered that no letters be delivered or received. He has lost my respect and I know that I am not the only one who thinks that maybe he has to fall victim to an "accident" while on the battlefield. I sincerely hope that he doesn't find this journal since it would mean that I'd be put in front of a firing squad.

Calais, Denmark, 28th of April

We won! I can't describe how joyous I am right now! I had heard from the cavalry men of the 1st Cavalry Division of the Wermacht that the allied forces were desperate since they are losing this war but I couldn't believe my eyes when they did that... what was it the prisoner I captured said? A Ronpaul smash? Silly Ynaks. The prisoner called Dark_Frost and I became friends in the process and my faith in the righteousness of our cause is beginning to degrade. I let him go before anyone noticed I had captured him. He was an alright fellow, not the evil and bloodthirsty American schwein we were told they'd be. In fact they are just like us in many ways. The nightmares are getting worse by the day. I don't know if I can take it. I see the eyes of the ones I have killed, staring at me. Yesterday I saw the eyes of my victims in the wall looking at me, judging me... I think I am losing my mind. But that damn commander of ours won't give me a discharge. Something about me being a damn good soldier and a valued member of the division. My shot up ass is a valued member of the division! I must hide this journal better from now on. He could find it at any time during those damn inspections.
