EXACT ERROR MESSAGES: no error message
WHAT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE IS AFFECTED: DOD source
WHEN / HOW OFTEN DOES THE PROBLEM OCCUR: always
RECENT CHANGES (SOFTWARE / HARDWARE / ETC): SP3 installed
LAST TIME COMPUTER WORKED FINE: 3 weeks ago
RECENT EVENTS: <power outage / lightning / BSOD> none
THINGS YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO FIX PROBLEM: tried changing rate in consol, reffered to common issues section.
COMPUTER SPECS:
Operating System: win xp sp3
Processor:amd
Motherboard:nvidia board
RAM: 1 gig kingston
Video Card: nvidia 5500 gt oc
Sound Card: stock
Hard drive:78 gigs


BASICALLY on all DOD source servers EXEPT flash and strand my pink is like 130 and i dunno why, usually my ping is under 50 ms, and in flash and strand it is under 50 ms but in donner, kalt and avalanche its in the 150's
 
its not the sp3 cause on all the other servers i get low ping exept the ones i stated above, Maybe the server isent giving my fair share of bandwidth.
 
ping and bandwidth are two different subjects.

If you think of the informaiton super highway...
The time it takes a car to drive from florida to texas is the ping. (A few days). If the highway is 5 lanes wide in both directions then you can have alot of cars driving but it still takes a few days to get there.


Ping is how long it takes the signal to go from your house to the texas servers. Bandwidth is how many packets can be sent at one time, but each packet weather there is one or many takes the same time to get there. Ping is measured in MiliSeconds. 150 is .15 Seconds and it affects the delay between the start and stop of packet sending - NOT the speed the packets continuousely come, just the initial delay.

go into your console (windows not dod) and type "tracert <ip>" where <ip> is the ip of the gamer servers you are connecting to. You wil see that all the informaiton goes down your street, to your cable company, to their ISP - to the backbone, and down the backbone untill it reaches texas and then in reverse untill it ends up at the box. The number of routers, computers, etc between you and the server as well as the distance affect ping.
