I like both depending on my mood.
hahahaThe allies have better weapons than axis, here is why:
1) Assault class: The assault class is equal for both sides, equally awful class, but equal nonetheless. The tommy gun and the mp40 are the same gun with different animation. I suppose you can say the mp40 is slightly better because it has 32 bullets while the tommy gun has 30, but does that really matter? So on assault class both teams are equal.
2) Support class: The BAR is definitely superior to stg44. I think many people prefer stg44 over BAR because it is a bit faster shot and has more ammo. But most people who play with support class rely on pray & spray tactics like with their assault class. The right way of playing the support class is to occasionally spray and pray, control recoil, and deliver precise long range shots. For doing all of those the BAR is supperior, better accuracy and easier on the recoil, so it is the better choice. Ammo is not a factor whatsoever. One can easily kill 4 or 5 people with BAR with ammo left to kill 1 or 2 more people all in one clip.
3) MG class: Most people will say mg42 is better than 30 cal. I disagree. I say these are equal classes. Does it really matter that mg42 shoots a little faster than 30 cal? They both shoot really fast and have no recoil on them. I mean that if you are playing as an mg class it really does not matter what mg you have, both will do the job you want them to do.
4) Scope class: Equal. There is no difference between the sniper rifles except how the scope looks like. I suppose that one can say k98 has 12 clips or ammo and springfield has 10 clips, but this is not a factor. In all my time playing DOD I have never even reached 6 clips, so this enormous size of ammo is irrelevant. The pistol sidearm does however have 1 extra bullet having 8 over 7 shots on your pistol is handy. So only for that reason the axis sniper class has a slight advantage over the allies sniper class.
5) Rocket class: Without a doubt the allies rocket is superior to the axis panzerschreck. First of all the bazooka fires faster than panzer, what I mean is that if you fire the bazooka you can move faster away than if you fired a panzerschreck, so bazooka rockets are better than panzer rockets. Second of all the carbine is like one of the best weapons in the game, it destroys the c96. The c96 coward gun is only for close combat while carbine can be used at any range, besides by being quick on the mouse the carbine is basically automatic anyway.
6) Rifle class: I know that most people will say that k98 is better than m1. Because it is 1 shot kill weapon but I disagree. The garand is in fact the best weapon in the game provided that one can play with it. The garand is the hardest weapon to master. There are only a few players that I seen on your servers that can play with garand properly. But if one can use it properly it wrecks utter chaos and destruction on the other team.
So why is that axis usually win most maps? That is simple because axis have advantage on map design. Not because of their weapons.
2. Better weaponry ? If you've heard the arguments, you may move on, but if they are new to you...
Let's look at the weapons each side uses from a standpoint of practicality. My personal favorite is the support class, and most every dedicated support player prefers the STG 44 over the BAR. Why? Refer to the code below.
Code:// Weapon characteristics: "Damage" "50" "Accuracy" "0.025" "SecondaryAccuracy" "0.02" "AccuracyMovePenalty" "0.1" "Recoil" "5.0" "Penetration" "1.0" "FireDelay" "0.12" "SecondaryFireDelay" "0.3"
This is the decompiled script containing weapon statistics used for both the STG 44 and the BAR. The recoil, rate of fire, damage, and all else is the same and will always be the same for both weapons. The only difference between the two? The STG 44 has over 30% more ammunition per magazine. The additional ammunition is an enormous advantage to support players in the sewers or the wheelhouse where indirect or missed shots can deplete your ammunition and leave targets remaining.
The STG44 also has a higher point modifier in the HLXStat system, which baffles me by the way, but that means STG users earn more points and, consequently, lose less over time to deaths by the BAR (I think). Weapon files can be found in /orangebox/dod/scripts/ listed as weapon_*.ctx.
Machine guns. Is there anyone here who can claim to be better at the .30 Cal than the MG-42? If so, why aren't you on Kalt?? Because, let's be honest, with the exception of very few people the MG-42 is a far superior casualty producing weapon on Kalt. They are fearsome, their overheating is never a huge issue, and their rate of fire is so wildly suppressive that you cannot slip through a burst of MG-42 fire (I can literally strafe in and out of a stream of .30 Cal). Yes, that's subjective, but eGO prefers the MG-42 and from my experience it is the superior weapon on Kalt. Want numbers? The MG-42 accounts for more than 40,000 more kills on eGO servers than the .30 Cal (as of 8-17-09). Moving on...
The rifle. The K98 is a ranged monster that tends to fare much better than its Allied counterpart. I say it tends to fare better not because the weapon is better (that is for a different thread) but because the players that use K98's are usually better than those who use Garands. I can think of a dozen very capable K98 riflemen off the top of my head and only a handful of Allied rifleman that could match them (on Kalt).
The assault. The Thompson and MP40 are very similar weapons, official DoDs stats place the Thompson slightly ahead in terms of usage (as does eGO) but headshots are shooting at about the same here so the effect of these weapons is negligible.
