Best Antivirus software

Ok so found out that a lil program called coreserviceshell.exe was sucking up quite a bit of my ram earlier & this is the 1st time ive noticed it. After doing some research, found out that a lot of people have had this issue when it pertains to Trend Micro Antivirus software, so im gonna try & search for another company that wont try & mess with my system and allows the best antivirus protection.

I did some research on the best antivirus protection for win 7 & noticed that Bitdefender came out on top of everyone else. I was rather surprised to see Norton round out the top 3. What are your thoughts on this info? What do you think is the best antivirus software program out there on the market?

I used to use McAfee for the longest time, but I heard some good stuff bout Trend Micro and wanted to give em a try. Ended up getting a good deal off of Newegg on it, but after finding this out, I wanna try & find a great deal on another company (possibly Bitdefender) who can offer quality protection & wont try to install junk onto my computer.

I will admit that I do need to run my spyware programs as well (may help, but not sure).
 
I personally live and die by Eset or Nod32 whatever you want to call it.

1) really small footprint.
2) two versions AV only or AV with Network security tools (i.e. firewall, parental controls etc)
3) light on resources
4) had it for well over 10 years, and never had a problem.
 
hmm i recently got the win32.exe virus.. After about 4 hours of searching my hard disks manually and with tools i found it myself and removed the virus myself. right now i have AVG and im really starting to think about nod32 or something new if it couldn't detect that.
 
I have been using Nod32 for about 4 years now. Only picked up 1 virus, and it was nearly instantly detected and quarantined for deletion. I use a pretty potent combo of Nod32, Spybot S&D, and Windows Defender.

I can +1 ESET NOD32 as well. And i have a great example as to why!

My mom had a laptop i gave her which she had countless issues on with malware/spyware and virus'.


I purhcased her a new laptop last year and made sure to purchase eset nod32 for the laptop. Since then she has not had one issue with her laptop as far as spyware or viruses go. This stuff is legit and worth the subscription if you need something effective.
 
Ya well thats the prob there, Im not exactly willing to spend $100 for antivirus software (mind you that I would put the antivirus software on my desktop & my moms desktop & my sis's laptop). I will give Bitdefender a try since they have 3 users for same price as Trend Micro & I read much better things bout Bitdefender than Trend Micro.

Now dont get me wrong. I did notice that Eset was up there as well in great ratings, but seems that Bitdefender just barely edges it out. I will talk with my mom in the future about getting it for us 3 (that is, Eset).

Norton used to be a pig on resources but it gets lighter and lighter each year, Overall it used to keep me free and clear for years.

I hate McAfee, we use it at work and it is a resource hog.

I have Norton's on my main rig running like a champ. I have . . . get this, Windows Defender on my laptop. I back it up with Malwarebytes scans of course, but since I put in Windows 8, it's all I needed.

Plus its free.

In my opinion - The less popular ones might even be better at stopping a lot of viruses since their ways of hunting them down could be different.

There is no true "BEST" of anything. I personally like Microsoft security essentials. Its free and gets the job done. I havent had any issues with any viruses on my computer.

Yeah, there is a best antivirus. It's whatever software that kills viruses the best while still doing it proactively and swiftly and being lightweight.

There's a best of everything. It's the thing that works the best for you.
