Not even the slightest amount of shame to admit I am a "try Hard". Not saying I'm a 100% @ all times (seldom do I put much effort into event nights) but I've never logged in to a public server & just screwed around.

John Nagy's post the other day about Class limits and the average pub. kind of got me thinking about this & then a few experiences I've had since . one was 2 heavies sitting in base for 3 rounds doing noting but eating sandviches & taunting each other & the other was 3 scouts just slapping each other with fish while walking around crouched (they at least somehow managed to kill a player or 2 during their 2 maps of just doing this over & over).

As we all know from the responses to Nagy's thread eGO servers are PUBs & are really only meant for "fun" (in fact some times I feel "try hard" if frowned upon). As long as your not breaking the eGO rules any foolishness goes. And from the replies to the said thread, if it's getting on your nerves "just move to another server" .
Here's the kicker, Just what eGO server is there someone like myself, a confessed "Try Hard"? NONE that I know of!

So, I've been starting to play on other clan servers that tend to lean more to my style. Strange wouldn't 'ya say?

Well, pubs are, in fact, pubs. I don't blame you for wanting to play stuff that's more serious, if that's what you like playing. I've been thinking about why eGO exists and why we actually DO enforce our rules (even though it's an M-rated game and there's blood and gore and we're all terrible people OHNOES). And, I mean, I think it comes down to having fun. Some people won't have as nice of a time if they're being yelled at and cursed at, and that's what eGO servers are for; and people who do need that to have a good time, then eGO servers are not for them.

I think for most people, having fun doesn't always come down to capturing the intel on 2fort. But, for those who like playing the game and want more out of it, then it's lame to suggest you aren't allowed to or shouldn't do that (I mean.. lots of people here play competitive.) SO, basically it's not weird. That said, I have amazing games of TF2 on eGO servers all the time. I don't feel comfortable in a truly competitive setting, but I think I can usually satisfy the (struggles-so-hard-and-still-fails) try hard side of me here.

But eh, if pubs are getting to ya. Pubs are pubs, and sometimes if you don't want to deal with pubs, you just gotta leave the pubs. Yep, that made sense.

The only thing strange to me in this is that you are letting some opinionated label dictate your behavior.

So what if you are a try-hard? That has no fundamental, intrinsic meaning. I also question the conclusion that the class limits thread establishes eGO servers as being more for pubs. These servers are for everyone. If there are some players messing around, an admin can ask them to play the game. Problem solved.

You are what you make of yourself. Everything else can be rectified one way or another.

While it may seem like that, there are circumstances were that is not true. The first example you gave about two heavies "sitting in base for 3 rounds doing noting but eating sandviches & taunting each other" is a perfect example. If they are doing nothing to contribute and people are upset that they are just taking spots on the team, a warning can be given to them to play. I would definitely warn them if I saw that they are taking valuable spots over the span of three rounds.

Caelestis put it nicely. These servers are for everyone, not just the pubs. :)

Cael and Kazoo are right (of course). What you are complaining about Puke is really a subtle form of griefing.

Excessive spycrabbing and heavies that feed sandwiches to the other team is considered griefing as well. Warn 'em and if they continue, purge 'em (politely).

It depends on the state of the server.

Usually, when the server is not full, most people do not want to try to fight, so they just screw around. I myself have done this many times before. Another thing, if most of the server is doing it, it's a good sign that you shouldn't interfere, and will die down by itself in time.

That should be around the end of the thread. Any other posting besides Puke's response seems a bit unneeded.

Hope you got what you wanted though.

I mean some of our members play in lobbies if they want serious gaming. Other examples are rocket jumping servers (surf are they called?), sniper servers, etc

Here's the kicker, Just what eGO server is there someone like myself, a confessed "Try Hard"? NONE that I know of!

While there are many things I could say in response to others responses, it's really not worth the effort.
For me my question was answered by not being answered.
Sorry to have to disagree with 'ya but eGO servers a "true PUBs" & nothing wrong with that since it seems it's was your selling. But I saw no mention of "we might consider a more serious server" from any replies. Therefore the simplest solution on my end will be to spend more of my time in other servers that tend to lean more to my style.

Thanks for the replies.

Uh I'm gonna just butt in here. Apologies if I give off negative undertones.

So it's too tiring to use a couple of keystrokes to simply answer some responses? It's not like you're writing a novel here.

For me my question was answered by not being answered.

Your question was almost useless to answer given Cael's explanation here:

Like Cael said, this title of "try-hard" is completely based on opinion and therefore cannot be answered in a "black and white" fashion.

What the heck is your definition of a "true pub?" All Cael said was that eGO servers are meant for everyone, "try-hards" and pubs alike.

If you wanted to request a "more serious server," then you could've easily Dropbox'd a request for one and gotten a reasonable answer from Leadership.

You know for a 49 yr old* man, you don't seem to have the maturity to honestly acknowledge anyone else's opinions.

Have fun on other servers.

P.S. making all your posts in red Comic Sans is as obnoxious as you can get other than completely disregarding any responses to your thread despite asking for them.

*His application.

Haha, my iPad makes your font Times New Roman to me! It is useless!

First of all, your question was not grammatically correct. I still don't understand it completely. But, assuming that you meant "Where can tryhards go to try hard?", I'll give you the answer.

Right there, on our servers. Yes, there. Just play, they're for everyone.

But, if you want another server for serious play, what would it have that sets it apart from our other servers? A name such as "Tryhard Valve Maps Rotation"? A catchy slogan? Or perhaps you mean nocrits, nospread, and the like.

If that is the case, thunk carefully. Very carefully. In your fairly short stay with us at Edgegamers TF2, how many times have you seen the idea of a server that has nocrits and nospread put forward to leadership? If you cannot remember any such time, I can assure you it has happened. A lot. And what was the answer? Why, the same reason the Blackmesa server is no more, even though the system was not implemented then. This also serves as a tl;dr.

Quickplay does not support servers with nocrits/nospread.

Please tell me if I have missed your point.

I feel we've ventured into the land of misplaced and vague animosity with charged charged words. Puke n Snot is asking if we would ever have a server more geared to the settings that one might expect from people playing the game more seriously/competitively. If the question is phrased thusly, then we have to come to terms with the fact that quickplay will not support these servers.

Beyond that, I absolutely still welcome Puke to play on our servers if he wants to. eGO may be geared toward being accessible to everyone (ie: a public server), but like everyone has said, there can certainly be room for high level play. There's no reason not to take Puke's criticism in stride and consider it. Sure it may have already been brought up, sure it could have been dropboxed, but an opinion was ventured, responses were offered, and a final clarification of the issue was given. And so, as always, respect should be shown to all.

If puke doesn't want to play all the time on our servers, that's entirely his prerogative; but, it'd be great to see him play in events or maybe just help out or admin a server. A community/organization is more than its servers. It's always about the people, and I would sincerely hope that everyone feels welcome.

TL;DR (read: all of you): To say this nicely, Puke, go where your heart desires. It'd be awesome to see you still be a part of the eGO community, though. Have fun trying hard and accomplishing things!

Some how I glanced over the last part of the below quote from "class limits" thread,

Honorbound, yeah you grasp the point
hEY, thanks

And I've found what I hope will be my solution.

For Goz, someone get him/her a HUG please, as for caring about my age & posting my application - WOW that's more then a little creepy.

Wow what happened to this thread? Unusual for eGO and unbecoming of eGO members.

Anyway, I'm also a total tryhard. If someone taunts after they kill me or something, I totally rage tryhard and often equip IW and aggressively target them for awhile, which in a lot of pubs usually means they spend most of their time dead. It's funny because in real life I'm quite laid back.

Veritably, especially since I was so pleased to see a generally free and positive debate on the merits of class limits in the thread referenced herein.

I believe the points from any and all perspectives have been adequately made. Suffice to say that I (and many more people, given their responses) do not want this to be framed in terms of either being a part of eGO or not; as I stated previously, these servers are meant for all and sundry. Some maps generate more competitive behavior (i.e. Badlands, Foundry) than others. However it goes, the point is that you should go whither you wish to be and no one ought reasonably to think less of you for it. Hopefully, you'll find some enjoyment on our servers notwithstanding your concerns.
