So, I decided to do something fun (and painful to boot). The [ame="http://www.amazon.com/INSANITY-60-Day-Conditioning-Workout-Program/dp/B002QZ1RS6/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1364254923&sr=1-1&keywords=insanity+workout"]Insanity Workout[/ame]! It's a 60 day workout regime, obviously designed to help you workout fast. As Shaun T explains, normal exercises have you going at a moderate level, then for about the last minute or so, at full speed. This is designed the opposite way; 3 minutes of full out exercising followed by a 30 second cooldown (or as much cooldown that flows into the next exercise as you try to breathe).

Day 1: 3/25/13 So far, I did the Fit Test; about 30-35 minutes of stretching and exercises. Here are the exercises that you will keep a record of (and redo every two weeks until the end of the workout program)
1. Switch Kicks
2. Power Jacks
3. Power Knees
4. Power Jumps
5. Globe Jumps
6. Suicide Jumps
7. Push-Up Jacks
8. Low Plank Oblique

Now, doing either one of these isn't that bad and I can give a respective amount. Doing all of them for a minute with 30 seconds in between, following just that warmup (which felt like a workout on its own), yeah, I struggled. I'm gonna keep my scores to myself, namely for the fact that the damn sheet is about 20 feet too far away for my body to crawl to. So I'll try to post them tomorrow... or when I actually have energy to post them.

So, even though I'm really exhausted for just a 30 minute exercise and warmup routine, I'm happy that I at least managed to go full out as hard as I could, BEFORE I collapsed onto my exercise mat for a good 5-10 minutes, focusing on breathing. Breathing= hard. Damn gravity. (By the way, I'm typing this at about 12 minutes after the last "Push Hard and Keep it Up" from Shaun).

I was somewhat prepared; I knew I'm wholefully out of shape compared to the level I should be to even think about starting it. But I trusted that I knew my body correctly, especially after years of grade school and high school sports (and about 14 years of tae kwon do). Drink lots of water; turn those ceiling fans on high to help cool and circulate the air, and stop and rest when you need to. In my case, that last part, I did a bit too often (but probably helped prevent me from puking and blacking out; apparently that happened to my friends who did this workout).

Now I'm drinking my protein shake, trying to get some calories and more cool liquids into me before my healthy dinner of salmon with asparagus. Assuming I can get up to cook. Did I mention that breathing is hard?

Day 1: Complete! (God help me!)

P.S. Did I say fun? I must have been punch-drunk tired...

Day 2: 3/26/13 Took a lot more breaks. Managed to not pass out or fall apart at the end. I hate the exercises that put a lot of stress on my knee. Which one you may ask? All of them! I've decided that instead of me just posting new replies each day, I'll just edit the original thread each day with a status update. And every once in a while, I'll bump the thread back up. So many different exercises, I lost track of what they're all called. We redid the warmups from yesterday (about 15 minutes of me going, Oh yeah! Screw you Shaun!) to learning new routines. First time through, they weren't bad and I was like, "Okay, so new ones after this?" Nope, Shaun is like, "Okay, 30 second water break, then we're gonna hit those same drills again harder and faster." And my response: Oh Shazbot! We did 3 sets of them total; the initial short one, 30 second water break, repeat for an additional 15-30 seconds longer (I was too focused on breathing at this stage). Another 30 second break, then the same exercises for about 75-90 seconds. Oh yeah, it's not 30 secs on, break, 60 seconds on, break, 90 seconds on, break. It's 30 seconds exercise 1, 30 seconds exercise 2, 30 seconds exercise 3, 30 seconds exercise 4, 30 second break. 1 minute exercise 1, 1 minute exercise 2... You get the idea. And we didn't learn just one new set of them. We did sections of new ones (say a set of 4 exercises every 15 minutes, then a new set of 4 the last 15 minutes). This was all folowed by 5 minutes of painful, but luxurious stretches where I can feel every muscle that I haven't used in a long time screaming in pain like a resurrected mummy. "I've decayed for so long, and NOW you want me to do squats?!"

Like last time, I'll post up another time some more information about the exercises (and yesterday's Fit Test...)

P.S. If you want to know how much pain and anger I was dealing with, ask EmilyVader; she heard me cussing Shaun out...

Day 11: 4/8/13 Week three. Fit Test time.

Fit Test #1 (Week 1)
Switch Kicks: 41 (set)/ 82 individual
Power Jacks: 32
Power Knees: 50
Power Jumps: 20
Globe Jumps: 11
Suicide Jumps: 10
Push-Up Jacks: 20
Low Plank Oblique: 15 (set)/ 30 individual

Fit Test #2 (Week 3)
Switch Kicks: 47 (set)/ 94 individual
Power Jacks: 44
Power Knees: 68
Power Jumps: 30
Globe Jumps: 11
Suicide Jumps: 12
Push-Up Jacks: 24
Low Plank Oblique: 23 (set)/ 46 individual

I say I made an improvement. However, weight loss has been 0 overall (been eating too much junk food again!). Right now, the sweat in my eyes is making this hard to type so now I'm gonna cool off. And drink my protein drink and have maybe an apple. Too tired to cook anything beyond something ready to eat now... Oooh, bananas!

Go to a prison, should motivate you to work out in your cell

I tried those a couple years ago.

The Insanity Workouts are..well.. insane.

I don't have the knees for it anymore. 20+ years of martial arts took their toll on my knees and ankles (that and just getting old!)

Insanity was a pretty good cardio workout and slightly good at muscle building. Even though I only got more tone when I did it. In all honesty, I'd recommend it to anyone that isn't in shape. It may not get you exactly where you want to be, but you'll be more energetic and ready to go for a gym regime.

I did P90X for around 9 months and Insanity for about 6. I liked both, but I stuck with P90X because I had a crush on Tony Horton. (He is old, I don't care. Still rockin' those spandex shorts)

I actually have both workouts. Got the P90X from a friend. But I figured I'd start with Insanity; don't have to spend money on other gear except for a good, sized exercise mat. For P90, I'd have to get a chin-up bar, elastic bands, weights, to do all the exercises that would require. And I haven't seen a single home chin-up bar that doesn't damage the door frame in one way or another.

@Dragon Martial arts and soccer for me. I'm wearing both an ankle and knee supporter to help deal with these workouts. Thinking about getting a matching set for my other leg now... =P
