Good rig for under 1100$?

I don't see how you can't afford it still given the build you were looking at? Dropping down from the h80i to one of those cheaper air coolers will make the 8320 to 3570k an even swap and a z77 mobo with decent features can be had for around that same price you were looking at the am3+ board for. Not sure where you $1500 figure came from.

its a snazzy z77 gigabyte board thats a little more expensive and the 3570k is another 50$ more than the 8320
 
Z77 is a pointless chipset UNLESS your doing overclocking... Otherwise save the money. And the h80i cooler is pointless. You will see only 3 to 4 degrees less than 212 evo in push/pull. The only closed loop cooler worth it is the Swiftech H20-320.
 
Heres my final ruling on this mainly because im seeing alot of either excuses or bickering (not sure which): save your $$ until you have officially enough to get what you REALLY wanna get. Gaming will not die at the end of the year, I guarantee it! End of story.

Gigabyte makes many boards at different price points. Which one are you looking at and why? And the $50 upgrade for 3570k is offset by the cooler like I already said.

Last upgrade would probably be the psu. CX series is corsairs bottom of the rung. I would look at least at the tx which isn't much more. Seasonics gold psus often go on sale at newegg as well. The x650 has been $90 at times (maybe lower), and would be about as good as it gets.

And if you are getting a 3570K, why would you not overclock at some point? And I wouldn't say the z77 is pointless otherwise. It has plenty of useful features.

Well, save the 50 dollars and go 2500k. You will see a 1 to 2 fps difference in games. I have used them both. The 2500k is better for over clocking and runs marginally cooler.
 
What $50 are you referring to? The two are at the same price in which case, definitely go with newer technology and the newer chipset. Native usb 3.0 and sata3 is worth it alone. Less power usage and better single threaded performance clock for clock makes having to overclock to the brink not necessary.

There is no $50 difference: The 2500K and 3570K are practically the same price -- the 3570K has been seen matching or going below the price of the 2500K when on sale with fair frequency -- and like Huck said, the 3570K is just better in every way.

While the 2500K may be better (in some circumstances) for extreme overclocking, I feel that at the point at which you're talking you're in the realm of benchmarking, not what will make your computer faster for gaming.

His post said something about $50. But also, Sata 6gb/s and USB 3.0 doesn't require the IB chip to work. It works with SB, all that IB does thats a bonus is give PCI-E 3.0 over 2.0, which all in all, is only a 2 percent FPS gain, not worth the extra heated temps to me in honesty. And look at the benchmarks, not a huge difference between the two.

Also, looked at the benchmarks, its a .60 FPS difference, not even a whole 1 fps difference between the two, with the same exact GPU's tested in extensive benchmarks and games, .60 was the average FPS difference, highest was .73, not even 1 fps yet. Overclocked, the 2500k kills the 3570k as it can hit 5.0 GHz and above as the 3570k maxes at 4.5 GHz and anything above 4.3 causes diminishing returns in that cpu.

Well I'd recommend an Intel i5 (when Haswell releases), a motherboard to go with it, and an EVGA GEFORCE 660ti. That's where performance will come from. And make sure you have a PSU that can support that.
 
Haswell isn't gonna compare to SB either, seen performance of them already. And the motherboards barebone, no usb 3.0 features nothin like that for the Haswell, intel required that.

that doesnt sound like something intel would resort to something like that for a chip nearly as highly anticipated as Ivy Bridge. U sure you found a RELIABLE source of this info?
 
Positive. They are doing that as a brand new socket. They did the same for SB when it first came out. Haswell is just a power saving cpu. They are going Eco friendly to help save the earth. I don't support that but it's what everyone does. I have my own reasons to not support the earth saving stuff, but keeping that to myself to prevent offensive stuff I may say. I know a lot about this stuff. I have been building PC's and comparing parts and doing personal benchmarks for years. I have been able to test the haswell 4570k for myself in person. It's not as good as you think, trust me. It's a 2 core with 4 threaded core cpu. Worst than 3570k at 4 core 4 threads.

i hope you do know that the 4570 is the haswell equiv of the i3. The 4670k is the haswell equiv of the i5 3570k, the stock freq matches too. from the proto board pics ive seen, they ALL have a usb3 header on the board. i have no idea where youre gettting your info.

Native intel support is what you want which is what ivy bridge gives you. Benchmarks show intel to be vastly superior over marvell for example. So that combined with ddr3 1600 native support, better integrated gpu (if you ever need to use it), and lower power consumption combined with a fairly even price (still don't know where this $50 nonsense is coming from) make ivy the easy choice. Just because you have the older sandy doesn't mean you have to try and bash the next best thing.

Sandy bridge kills ivy bridge when overclocked? Is this a joke? What does this even mean? It is great how ivy can only clock to 4.3ghz and it is diminishing returns after that but the 2500k can go to infinity and it always gets better!!!!@$!@$ Just because you claim to have knowledge on all this stuff doesn't mean it is correct.

What performance did you "supposedly" see for haswell? You have to compare apples to apples as mudkipz said. Haswell will be a step ahead. Intel is not in the business of going backwards.
