Key prices skyrocketing!!

Actually this just shows the value of metal is going down due to an inflation of metal in the market. The value of a key is not going up the valve of metal is going down.

This, so much this.

Metal value has fluctuated since the beginning of time, when Adam and Eve walked on the Earth. Back then a key was worth 20 ref. Eve would get mad, because Adam liked to hoard all the metal.

Anyways, keys stay relatively the same value, because coincidentally, people are using about as many as that flood the market.

The official Steam TF2 Market Place has barely changed anything in the Hatconomy. People who do regular trading, who do the bulk or purchases and sales, know to get their keys from the same dealers they always have, usually on the outpost.

Keys get bought, keys get traded, keys get used. 'Tis the circle of key life.

The market was an interesting idea for Valve, and doubtlessly makes them a lot of money, but it completely screws up the economy.

That's nonsense. According to the latest Dabes Index the sale ranks for Mann Co. Supply Crate Keys are rising to an all time high. Having such sales power must mean that the economy is doing great!

The law of inflation applies to TF2 as well as the real economy. As long as the total number of "refined" increases at a greater rate than the total number of keys, ceteris paribus, (other things being held equal), key price inflation is inevitable and there is no upper limit to key prices.

Valve either needs to introduce a metal sink or we just wait till it all gets crafted out.

As long as the total number of "refined" increases at a greater rate than the total number of keys...

All sounds like Econ 101 until you get some idiot just hoarding a bunch of metals for no sane reason. Link

I would say this would be true if there weren't so many different currencies in TF2. There are hats, there are buds, there are keys, and there's real money of course. Key prices aren't just tied to metal, and thus, they can't just keep going up even if metal experiences inflation (at some point, all keys must come from valve and real money).

Bottom line: we could probably start figuring out an alternative item to trade for keys, and then it wouldn't matter as much how little metal buys you now

I thought this was going to be a story. : | I was excited for a sec.

Eve decided that she was tired of Adam hoarding all of the metal, so she decided that she had to find a different way to get keys. Just then, a serpent came and offered her the forbidden fruit of the knowledge of trading and idling, saying that she too could learn to hoard and take all the keys for herself. Intrigued but unconvinced, Eve said she would think about it. At this point, the serpent offered her 5 keys to eat it and then, while Eve pondered this deal, quickly threw the fruit at her mouth.

When Eve had eaten of the fruit, she suddenly understood trading. Adam became jealous and took a bite from the fruit as well. The serpent laughed as the he could see the economy falling apart as the god of trading quickly and wrathfully approached. As the god of trading first berated Adam and Eve for their foolishness, jealousy, and greed, the serpent stole all of Adam and Eve's metal. But then, the god of trading promised a way of redemption. He promised a day in the future when the serpent would be crushed by dropping metal prices, and Adam and Eve and their descendants would be forever free of the tyranny of trading.

As a final promise, the god of trading bestowed upon Adam and Eve the first Hat, to signify that he would never again crash all the trading servers of the world.

Something like that.

Let me ask, since I am not well in versed with TF2 prices and whatnots.

Will this also have an affect on items and their key price worth?

Like, will my Strange Festive Buffbanner and Ambassador become less valuable or more? Or no effect at all?

Thank you!

That was so beautiful.

Then Cain tried to hack into the God of Trading's inventory and ended up being stripped of premium privileges.
