Which is best?

Hey dudes!!

Im about to renew my Video Card (cuz my GTX 560 burned and died) and I have these options:

a) PNY GTX 650 PCIEX16 3.0 Standard 1GB 128bit DDR5

b) Gigabyte RAdeon HD 7770


Also im renewing my RAMs to 16 gb (8x8)

I have these two alternatives as well:

a) XPG DDR3 100G Dual Etail+g Kit 4GBx2 Ver 2 ADATA

b) A DATA DDR3 8gb 1333Mhz Sky RAM series with coolant aluminium

My gear is a Intel i5 with MB Asus, 700W, cooler master and etc etc.


Which would you think is the best combo??

I'd throw a bit more cash into the vid card and get a 2gb instead of a 1gb. But if your stuck with those 2 choices.. 650 ti hands down.

as for the RAM.. go with the Adata
 
Go with the 650 ti Boost, the 650 ti is even a meh card, I personally wouldn't choose it :P But thats me. Go for what you want. The 660 ti is marginally better if you can afford it. And for ram, go with G.Skill or Corsair for ram, they have the best heatsinks on them and will have faster speeds and longer lifespans on them.
 
If you can, honestly go with the 650ti Boost like fetterEsel mentions. It is not even comparable to the regular 650ti. It is that much better and I don't believe they are that much more in price.

EDIT: Just checked and they are 10 dollars more then the regular TI. And the Boost gives 30% increase in performance for almost all games. Well worth it.

Or he could just overclock the 650Ti regular for less then 10$ and make it just as fast as the "boost"
 
The GeForce GTX 650 comes with a clock frequency of 1058 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1250 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is comprised of 384 SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon HD 7770, which comes with a clock speed of 1000 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1125 MHz. It also features a 128-bit bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It features 640 SPUs, 40 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Theoretically, the GeForce GTX 650 should perform a bit faster than the Radeon HD 7770 in general

The Radeon HD 7770 will be a small bit (approximately 18%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 650

The GeForce GTX 650 will be a bit (about 6%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon HD 7770, and will be able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance.

I would go with the 650. As it also uses less power

This is something that irks me about the AMD vs Nvidia and AMD vs Intel idea.

The biggest issue is that VERY LITTLE games are tailored to use the most of intel and nvidia. Forcing AMD to pretty much update their drivers all the time and constantly try to keep up as they slow behind. They are going to be releasing a new card near the end of 2013 from an article I have read.

AMD cards are great. Although they arent on par with Nvidia right now its still a great card to get, no matter what. AMD drivers are fine too. Just remember that the games that are constantly coming out now are being tailored to use all of Nvidia's power where as AMD has to tailor their drivers to make it work with the game and get the full potential out of the game and GPU.
 
That's AMD's predicament they have to deal with, so no pity there. They're the ones who decided to spend $2 Billion on ATI, nVidia's largest competitor in the GPU market. By doing so, they forced themselves to take on the driver optimization duty, which they HONESTLY believed they could do well since ATI would be able to get direct access to AMD CPU's.

So this is an issue that AMD brought upon themselves. Not to mention losing most of that $2 Billion dollars when they wrote off more than half of it as goodwill.
 
I would like to add onto what Snipeye said. We have to understand that AMD recently acquired ATI. This isnt something that happened like 10 years ago. Because of this, it is still taking AMD some time to work out the kinks in all aspects of the video card line. This wont be resolved overnight either. I believe that in the next few years AMD will finally start to get really bold & come out with some real beastly cards that will come in close contest with nVidia.

Overall however, I just dont forsee AMD being able to overcome the competition when it comes to video cards. Now for me, the only reason I would want to get an AMD video card would be because of the lifetime warranty (but theres only like 1-2 companies if that that really put out good cards that comes w/ these warranties).
 
nVidia wins then because AMD has had plenty of time (over 5 years) to clean up from ATI & they are pretty much at the same angle as ATI was, only difference is that they have more $$ now.
 
Actually less. They had to spin off their fabrication business into Global Foundries, and even there, they're having some balance sheet issues remaining with BOTH companies now. The best news that has happened to AMD in some time now is that their CPU is being used in the Playstation 4, an 8-core "Jaguar" CPU AND will be powering the Xbox 720's GPU with the Radeon 7790.

There are some rumors or ideas that it may be in Apple's best interests to maybe buy out either or both AMD and Global Foundries to secure their own CPU fabrication (instead of getting it from Chinese manufacturers and Samsung. Just a recent report has showed that Apple is beginning to order less CPU's, beyond even their lower sales forecast numbers are showing.

Didn't Apple have a lawsuit with Intel and lost use of Intel products ? I thought I read an article about that a while ago.

They did. They switched to a company who makes mobile processors for phones.

If they even do purchase AMD they will be far behind the 8 ball like they somewhat already are.

What company are they going with now? This is very interesting, as my dad is a huge Apple fan, and I am just a guy who likes to build his own computers and stay out of the over priced fanatic stuff :P.
