I miss FLASH

I realize I might be a minority with this opinion, but I always had a fun time playing on DOD_FLASH. A great solid little map that involved a little strategy to ensure success.

I still believe the deadliest place to be in the dod universe is main street on Flash.

I know EGO has played around with the idea of having a DOD_Flash server, but I think the time we tried that it proved not to be too popular. :(
This thread is not meant to advocate for such a server. But just to discuss FLASH and any memories you had playing it or simply to show your love for the ultimate small map.

Finally feel free to bring up the old argument of whether it's called "Two-Story" or "The Barn" . :P

What did you love/hate about FLASH. Do you miss playing it?

Flash is my all time 2nd fav map next to the old school map dod_zelec.

I dont recall another map where the the mid flag could cause such chaos. Was great fun indeed. And if on the allies, nothing worse then thinking you could make it though that middle without getting cut in half by a German mg.

oh, and i called it the 2 story. :D

We played it as Wild Card the other night, plenty of nade fun.

And i was sad when i missed that :(
I was so excited, but got a bad fever during the day and stayed in bed for a few days and missed it. *sniff*

Man where to begin.

Flash was the first map I played. The comedy was golden there just because Capt. Goomba and Capt. Kirk were there. That server was always full and always a riot. I would have to agree that Flash hands down was the deadliest map. Ava has nothing on it nor Donner.

What was so great about Flash? Well we spent the whole 300ish server time never capping out the flags. Flash loved to stalemate, which was ok to me because that was fun. Knowing you won't lose or win, just going in and killing as many Germans as you could. I also liked the fact flash was never won by Germans. Americans always beat the crap out of Germans. You don't see people stacking the axis. When you did they still lost. Even when kirk did his "5 min Drill" which basically said when the Germans would lose. Even 5 MG42's could not stop me from capping the Last flag.

The only reason I have over 2,000 hours in DoD was because of flash and my Thompson. Flash was a pure rush map. The Kar98 lost every fight because it was too CQC. The Thompson was the greatest weapon for flash because of its 2 firing modes.

I don't know what made flash great, but Rushing the Hotel with about 50% of the Axis team in it with only a single Mag and your fists felt great when you came out the other side after killing them all. Then rushing the street from the back and clearing them out to open up for reinforcements.

Flash was an even map which right off the bat was a fair fight, just like Colmar and Kalt. They were never one sided. They kinda depend on true skill. This is where people say "Dutch using a Thompson holds no skill!" Well that's because you use it wrong. As a Thompson you must.

1.Flank
2. Have wits
3. Let nothing stand between you and the objective.

heck I remember when I was called a hacker by using the Thompson. Went 95 and 12, because i kept flanking and kept a full mag at the ready. It took true skill to live as long as i did with the Thompson. Sadly my skills kinda lack now.

I could go on and on about Flash and the Thompson. Man do i miss the Golden years.

Man, I love flash.
Except for Kalt, Flash is my favorite!
Just because you can flank everyone and you can throw nates nomatter where (you will kill anyone)

I wish we could play that map in one of our ''Euro Events''!

I haven't played flash very much except for a few times at events, while I might prefer kalt or anzio I do prefer it to donner or avalanche. I like the idea of the mid being a quick single cap, but as others have said it is probably one of the deadliest places to be on all the DoD:S maps. Running through the fields to try and sneak up on the enemy is always a good time.

I only played DOD for maybe 20 hours.... but almost all the hours were racked up on flash. It was just too much fun and really introduced me to the game, and let me have fun.

I'm sure its been considered bringing it back.... oh well

I think if we pull up a server rankings (get anzio and kalt into the top 50) we could easily convince leadership to let us bring back the flash server.

Man I was able to get Flash past Anzio's(I think it was around 115 at the time) rank before flash went offline. I doubt it will ever come back.

One thing I will say about Flash which I enjoyed is that... (and probably to no one's surprise) is that it is a rambo friendly map... for me

Rushing on that map, sniping in certain areas and rambos galore in some spots was loads of fun. Definitely missed from time to time I guess.

Stories? Have a few but... lost in the memory for now.

Amen fellow flashite! For the Fatherland!
But in all seriousness leadership has been skeptical at best as far as reinstating a flash server. We would need to at least determine what caused the decline of flash in the first place and rectify that. Even then I doubt a return of flash.
But I propose a compromise. What about a regular flash event?

Well i will post how it fell seeing as how i witnessed it. I may step on some toes, but not everything leaves on a good note.

First flash had the "Crew" that had always filled the server and got it going. The leader was Capt. Kirk. Now like all leaders some start to not believe in the commanding staff i.e Leadership. Slowly in his eyes he saw DoD falling off its rocker and he jumped ship. Soon after other crew members followed. Thus I was left to try and save her...aka Flash.

The numbers began to fall and soon Flash got moved to 400ish rank and everyone was all ANZIO ANZIO ANZIO which was one of the main factors for flash. Let's all forget about flash and help our new server. Well I saw it as my duty to be called into action and do my best. Which was a big leap of faith.

Everyday I jumped into the Flash server and got it slowly moving. Within about a week I got it half filled, but sadly it did not go much further. I looked for helped and spammed my friends list, but sadly no one came. I asked a couple of people "Why don't you like the flash server". The answer which I got a lot was " Because its a bad map". I then asked "What makes it bad?" The reason i got for the 12 people i asked was " Because my friend said so!" My last question to this "person" was "Have you played it?" They ended with "no".

The main factor became other members in eGO trash talking Flash and saying how great Anzio is...which in my opinion Anzio can blow it out its nose.....well in the most respectful language i can say it here. I right then and there had a goal. Beat out Anzio's rank and save Flash.

I did a lot for Flash, and so did other members who enjoyed the map. Most of them long gone now. When it was around Christmas time I modded a map known as "Christmas Flash". Some might have played on it. Its the one with the off looking snowman at the 2nd on Allies side. This boosted the population to where Flash out beat Anzios rank by ten. Flash now sat at around 115 ish in rank and Anzio was 125 -130ish. It stayed there for a good two weeks. Sadly Flash was removed.

The big factors towards the end was because of JohnT. He came out of no where one day after being gone for 2 years. He cut off Flash and wanted to chop Kalt and change Strand. In my opinion he was wrong for doing this because he was out of the loop for a long time. When he did this fellow Flash players threaten JohnT with PM's. When i found out I made a 2 page letter to apologize for them. I got the feeling though from one of his posts that...he simply blew it off. I made a vow that when Flash went..so did I and that's what almost happened. When Flash was gone i got messages from people who I thought disliked me because...well I can be hyper a lot for some reason. I decided against leaving and moved to OP:X seeing as how I was spending time with them during Arma 2's campaign.

Sadly this killed DoD for me, so that might be why you don't see me much around. I still do Realism which, i probably have the best attendance record for seeing as how I hardly missed any. Now that has changed because of working the weekend nights.

I don't regret anything when I left DoD. They say "The tougher the fight, the tighter the bond". DoD leadership tried to help....but what can you do when your Boss says" I'm done, I have this decision". I wish some of the members back then had more fight in them, but hey what can you do other then take threatening action....that never solves anything...maybe just prolongs it.

If I have any say if Flash should come back...I would vote no. Flash is long gone and so is its members. The pub pop is either in the other servers...or other games. The Rangers at the time did nothing, because they were still kinda forming and going after the "popular servers". What is done, is done...just be glad you had some memories or fun times on Flash. If you don't...well you really missed out on one helluva good time.

Like i said before, if this post steps over some unknown line feel free to remove or edit out some parts. he last thing i want to do is create drama...seeing as how that has killed a lot around here in eGO.

Good hunting and stay safe.

Flash is where I started :(

I only remember playing with Goomba all the time, but who doesnt remember playing with that guy haha

True enough Joe.
Interesting discussion above.

Well if a server is ever changed to Flash, I know I would be a regular. Until then. Good memories.
