Fallout 3 on Windows 7

Gentlemen, I require your assistance. I've been attempting to get Fallout 3 to work on my laptop

Processor: Intel Core i7 3rd Generation 3517U
Memory: 8.0 GB
Hard Drive: 500.0 GB - 5400.0 rpm
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-Bit, English
Display Type: 14.0
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon HD7570M 1GB

So, I've tried downloading 1.7 (haven't tried the .dll to go with it, I'll do that today), d3d9.dll, changing iNumHWThreads=2 (and 1) and bUseThreadedAI=1, setting the compatibility mode to Windows Service Pack 2 and to Vista (don't recommend, steam freaks out), uninstalling, disabling .NET 3.1 and reinstalling, changing the resolution to fit my screen's...

... and about three other things I don't remember. I'm at my wit's end. Anyone have any suggestions?

That's odd, because whenever I install fallout 3 it runs perfectly for me(Windows 7 64-bit). It may be because I have it on steam, but other than that I have no idea.

What issue are you having exactly. You say it's not working but that is about all we know. Do you get any errors? Does it simply crash? More info would be nice to have if you can provide.

Both the Steam version and non steam versions work perfectly fine for me on my Windows 7 64bit OS with and or without patching the game. So it is very odd to hear that it is not working.

Hey, sorry I haven't replied until earlier. Astartes, trying out that mod now, I'll report how it goes.

Zeriu, the crash happens whenever I attempt to start a new game. Opening the game is no problem. I receive no error messages, it merely crashes.

And the game actually wasn't made for Windows 7, so it's a fairly common problem. It's also pretty easy to fix, except for mine. For whatever reason, every fix I've tried hasn't worked. Since posting this thread, I've also gone through and tried shutting down the cores it would use manually, which didn't work, along with a few other fixes I don't remember of the top of my head.

Well, I did have Fallout on Windows 7, I used to play it and it would crash, I can't remember what I did, But I'll see if I can find out.

I think there's a d3d you have to download, though I could be quite mistaken and that's for New Vegas.

Have you tried running in compatibility mode and checking/disabling any check boxes in the same screen?

Hey everyone. It took me quite a while to find the answer to this one. I recently upgraded my older laptop to a new Windows 7 OS based 64 bit core I7 Dell. I reinstalled my copy of Fallout 3 GOY edition, and it would crash upon startup, as soon as I clicked "new game". After reading hundreds of posts about Fallout 3 crashing, I finally came across this you tube video that showed me the fix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GN5HbMsMVE Basically, the original Fallout 3 (and Fallout 3 GOY edition) is missing the d3d9.dll file in the Fallout 3 directory. Downloading this dll and putting it into the Fallout 3 directory fixed this for me instantly.

Yeah, 'fraid it didn't work.

There isn't one. Just the generic "Fallout3.exe has stopped working."

And sorry for the late reply, guys, but I kinda gave up on this. I just put it on my desktop (which is worse than my laptop, but you can't have anything) that runs Vista. Thanks for the replies, guys, but I'm giving up
