how do you start up a web forum

my scout group wants aforum so everyone looks at me since i'm into computer but i'm really just a noob so how do you start up a website forum?

There is a bunch of software out there that can be used. For instance, PHPBB, e107, Simple Machines, and Joomla are all free content management systems.

For a free stand alone forum, [link=http://www.proboards.com/]ProBoards[/link] might be your best bet.

If you need a simple easy way use yahoo groups or Myspace. When you want more find a good web host like monster host. Alot of hosts give you free domain name registration and plenty of programs to use.

If you don't want e107, take invisionfree, 10000000x times better than proboards. I've used both, invis. if better and easier.

You might want to go with a hosting service vs trying to run it on your own server with your own software. If you decide to move on you just have to turn the password over to whover wants to pick it up after you.

You might not want to take freedom for granted. There are some countries that restrict internet access very tightly and others that tax certain types of activity. Some companies have responded by not offering services in various countries.

A lot of hosting services will allow you to set up a forum with the click of a button in your control panel. That might be your best bet if your not sure where to start. You can get one with ipower.com for example, for about 4 bucks a month. They've been pretty reliable for me.
