Valve Economics Blog

To those who don't know Valve hired a while ago a professional in economics to study its own economy. Lot of good info published and I bet soon he will give more work on the dropping value of metal or you can just send him an email asking about it.

I just checked that earlier today, looking for some new insights on TF2 economy. Unfortunately, his last post is almost a year old now.

They seriously hired a professional... They can do this, but they can't count to three?! WHYYYYYYY!

They just need to introduce a metal sinc, something desirable that can only be obtained through crafting a moderately large amount of metal.

I think Valve needs to add an in-game currency and a market place where you can use this currency to trade with other players for items. Sort of like an auction house.

Adding a currency would be so much trouble for so much uncertainty. There are already several in-game currencies, which may or may not be sufficient. A metal sink would probably make sense though. I've heard suggestions of a metal slot machine or whatever. (Ha, they should make it that you can use metal to try to spin for a key or something.)

All I could think about when reading that was "Gabe wants his Happy Meal."

Or...instead of trying to break the market by adding something new and pointless, how about having traders that aren't greedy?

It is the trader's fault that the market is imploding. Something I also find laughable are people who think their items are special because of a certain craft #. Oh lord, Hat Fortress you so silly with your 12 year old traders.

Okay. Everyone PM him to fix the economy. plskthanks.

What kind of toy do you think Gabe want's in his Happy Meal? I feel like that's important.

So you're saying the 3rd Head Warmer ever crafted is worth normal price, even to a collector?
