Team Fortress 2 game files are being converted to Valve's new efficient format for storing and loading game content - SteamPipe. With this new update, you'll be able to enjoy faster boot/load times and better management of custom content such as skins or HUDs. The update is going to hit us on April 30th.

If you are impatient and would like to update your client to experience the benefits right away, you can opt-in right away by selecting the SteamPipe beta from the Steam properties dialog (Steam -> Right click on Team Fortress 2 -> Properties -> Betas).

Improving a game?......IMPROVING IT AND NOT BREAKING SOMETHING ELSE?!

Gabe...what are you plotting.

Sounds like a massive improvement though.

Words taken right out of my mouth....

Lets see how this does though since it took me 2 launches of steam to get it work for me ._.

I've had excellent success with Steampipe so far. Much faster loading times!

Good bye replays im gonna miss ya :(. and thanks for the explanation of steam pipe because I had no idea what it was.

I did have issues with Steampipe and CSS... it wasn't letting me onto servers, stating that my version was too new. Perhaps this is worked out now though

I just converted my TF2 installation. The improvement is outstanding!

To anyone with a custom hud, has converting broken your hud?

Valve, why are you so brilliant.

Also I'm pretty sure they did this already with all their other games a long time ago, they just never got around to the games listed in the post.

Actually you can find all your custom stuff in a folder called download. It has all your mods and maps in there just move it to custom and you have everything back.

I wonder, did Valve get this idea from Garry's mod? Because GMod has had an "addon" folder system for ages. It makes mod installation super easy.

Took mine about 20-25 minutes to convert... Faster load times are not a lie woo :$

This worked great...right up until it decided to re-download the entirety of TF2 :bored:

I am downloading AS I TYPE THIS. It seems to have crashed my Steam while it downloads...But things happen. If it continues I will tell you all how things went. From reading other reactions just expect this "AHGAH! THIS IS DABES LOADING SPEED! /DeeLuxxed Cries" Will update in an edit.
