Hey guys! We need your help to make sure we reach our goal in TF2 recruiting for the month! Our goal is 100 and currently we are at 74 with only 3 days left!

If everyone could get 1-2 recruits, we could reach our goal in no time! Borokov currently has a contest that you can enter and I'll give some prizes for those who try and help out! Even 1 recruit helps with the division! Recruiting is an extremely part of the division if not the most. With a new recruit that decides to stay in the long run that's a future admin, a future AT, EC, or RH and possibly a future leader. Please take sometime out of these next 3 days to support a good cause. If you need any help on how to recruit contact myself or an RH to help! I hope that we can break this goal and make it a first in the TF2 division to have 3 100+ recruitment months in one year. Thanks

Everyone listen to what the wize man has to say! Make sure you do your very best!

Don't worry, I've got this. jeremy, let's get the team together!

I can never understand the recruit drives that are always done. We recruit plenty of e's but our ability to retain then and have those new recruits become an active part of this dab community is a bit shameful.

ALso, everyone is elligible for the recruitment contest, bring in your friends, your family, your pets!

It's a bit shameful to make our community grow? So that more people can enjoy the things we have here? So, that we could get more servers? There's nothing shameful about wanting to grow. It's called inviting people into our family. It's shameful that you think that way.

What he said. After all, he is a Wize man. (pun intended)

I'm on Polish's side here. We recruit 100 people a month, yet maybe 2 of them come onto the forums. The "hey welcome" threads which all of our active forum members post on without the new member saying "Hi" is kinda sad. I don't see how having 100 recruits will help get more servers since very few of those "members" will be donating/active enough to warrant more servers.

I'm all up for wanting this community to grow, but this aimless recruiting isn't doing anything. These recruits don't actually feel like a part of the family. They join the server, see that we are recruiting, talk to maybe one or two members, put on some tags and then realizes that no one actually cares. What kind of family/community are we if I only know 3 out of the 10 eGO's on a server? We should be trying to recruit regulars that we talk to and interact with because those people are the ones that I enjoy playing with. A lot of the new e's feel like their tags mean nothing.

Then again I've always been accustomed to an elite, tight-knit clan. I know eGO is all about a laid back, fun gaming experience where anyone can join and have fun with us. But I feel like many of the recruits don't feel like they're part of the community and we should make them feel more at home before we invite them into our house.

It is possible that some recruits just don't want to be active. So many people I recruit just want to game on our servers without any responsibilities.

You do not have to keep reminding the RH's about retention, we are doing everything to crack down on that.

Then what's the point? Recruiting 100's of members so we can pat ourselves on the back? I don't feel like I have any "responsibility" when I'm playing on our servers other than enforcing the rules. I choose to play on the servers because you guys/gals are fun, I shouldn't feel like I need to be "responsible" when playing within our community.

It should be everyone's job to retain new members, but there are so many recruits how do we expect to integrate them if no one knows them? The fact that retention is even a problem says something.

Retention is a key point in recruiting, indeed, and I must say we should pay more attention in showing through the forums and ventrilo to your fellow new recruits.
That's actually what recruiters must do: Ask your recruit to be active on the forums and on ventrilo, and once a week (approx.) you should tell your recruit to come join us on ventrilo introduce themselves to our leaders and make them feel like a real piece of the puzzle.

I remember way back when I was firstly recruited by Mohawk, in the Insurgency division, I didn't feel like I was important to them, and I forgot about EdgeGamers for a few months..
Make him feel fit here.
Be his mentor, you'll never feel prouder than when you see your recruit gets his G.

So don't let it down guys, and get out there and keep recruiting, but remember to make him feel good around here, and not just one of the 50000+ members of eGO.

Ok?

And what more do we need to do. We recruit members so they are aware of our community, we host many events and have an active forum. It is then up to the recruits to take part if they wish, we can't just keep pushing them to be active if they don't want to.

Yes, quantity isn't the best solution but what good is it if the community dies because nobody is joining. We could recruit 5 members who will be active within this community, or we could recruit 100 members and then many more from that list can choose to be active and take part.

We need to find a mid-point, we need to recruit and then it's up to those recruiters to keep in touch with their recruits and make them feel involved, ask them to join events and see how they're getting along. I know I've done that with my recruits and some of them have gone on to be very successful.

Ok?

Nothing wrong with any of your points. It's the fact that there are quotas which make our recruits seem like numbers that irks me.

Ok, if all this tread is going to be is us bickering then I will get an advisor to close it.

Recruiting =good
retention=really good

Not recruiting=not good
not retaining= not not good

Case closed.

I work mainly with the league of legends part of the OP:x community and just for league I say we get 1-5 recruits a month. When I meet the new recruit in ventrilo or in-game they are always somewhat shy, but since there are few it is easier to get in touch with these guys and become friends with them. I understand that tf2 is much larger than League of Legends at the moment, but you can still become friendly with a 1-5 people by just adding them on steam, chatting them up and inviting them to play a few games outside/in tf2. It always makes me sad when I see someone new in vent sit there by himself, so try finding these people and just have a conversation with them. If you have done everything you can to try to keep the recruits active; there should be nothing to be ashamed of if you did everything you could have done.

Now back on topic: good luck on you tf2 people and your recruiting goal.

sorry jeremy we posted a second apart after you said that

I was sick to my stomach reading the negativity on this... Guys we recruit to bring in more people and we get most of those recruits from Recruitment Drives. And don't expect them to stay on the forums freely unless they were dying to join! It's also your job as the recruiter to show them around the forums, Ventrilo, the servers and take them to events. Just going oh here's your e tag now make us proud is not how to keep a recruit! SHOW THEM what the things we do are! The talking in vent. Ever thought they wanted to talk to other admins and other es. Show them around... Leaving an e in the open is one of the worst thing you can do to them.

Frustration is frustration. I don't think we need to infer any negativity from any of the posts here, and I think good points are obviously made by all. Spathika (and actually everyone) really hits the head on the nail here. TF2 is big, and keeping up with people is not only hard, it's impractical. My focus in sociology has always been group/organization dynamics, and I'm sure you all realize that it's hard to know everybody in eGO or even know where to begin. We SHOULD do this or that, and we can always be doing more.

Talking to just a few new e's every so often is awesome, but the key here is persistence. It really comes down to wanting to follow up with your recruits. And there will be those e's that just fall off the radar like Boro. It's impossible for people to know everyone in eGO, let alone every new recruit. Recruiters have to spend that time to continually reach out to their recruits, which honestly can be quite taxing if you're recruiting 15 new people every month.

HeadHunter was merely saying that he didn't like the idea of turning recruits into numbers to be proud of, which I totally agree with. But it's not the numbers that are the problem. If we can show that we actually care about our recruits (actively invite them to events, explain the forum, help them install vent - over time, probably), then that number is just all the more meaningful.

SeriouslyTL;DR: Everyone is right, it's not about the numbers, it's about the people. Put a little persistent and consistent effort into people, and when it works, it'll be magical for all.

Thank you for summing it up nicely hEY. I wasn't trying to bicker, be negative or disagree with anyone, just trying to bring to light why the retention problem shouldn't be a problem. Every eGO member should feel like an eGO member.

Healthy debate! :thumbup1:
