on the bright side, after you're no longer a student.. you get to keep eating that for 5-10 more years while you pay on your loans interest until you finally get a job worthy of paying towards the principle... and at that rate you'll feel like you can actually start spending money on something more than ramen and oatmeal..

Ahh, this is where I like the UK system.
Payment back reflects entirely on income at the end, with 9% of your monthly pay going towards it (taken out at the same time as tax). Can range from anything of that of inflation, too 3% max in terms of interest.
Plus if I don't pay (no income etc), I don't get chased for money and the debt is cleared after a certain amount of time (I think 30 years).
But to keep this on topic. We decided to go out for lunch as a group last weekend, and found somewhere that did decent cocktails for about ?2-3
