Usb hub lag??

Hey there ego community,

I recently just got a usb hub for like $5 on ebay and I"m pretty sure it's not a knockoff from China.. Anyhow, I plugged it in for my external headset and keyboard and I've been noticing some lag in my keyboard movement. Is this normal? Or am I just imagining things? I've played CS for like forever now so I can feel if there's something wrong.

A properly functioning USB hub shouldn't be causing keyboard or mouse lag.

Yes. Exactly. You shouldnt trust anything off ebay as I and many other people have been scammed through bad sellers on there. You probably got a real product that was just defective. I suggest going and spending 30$ on a decent USB hub.

So if I get a more expensive usb hub, it should sove the problem? Any of you guys use usb hubs? Can you tell me how it works (the technical side)? I've done some search but haven't found any really useful threads on it

Sad fact; instead of risking getting ripped off on eBay you could of just bought this from Newegg.

There's quite a variety available in different formats, styles, manufacturers, and colors on Newegg.com so you should just peruse the reviews they've got and find one that matches your need.

P.S. Something to think about; the USB Hub you're using may only have up to USB 1.1 instead of the 2.0 standard (or 3.0) that now exists.

Yea most of the usb hubs I'm looking at aren't really meant for gaming or I haven't seen any that are geared towards gaming. I guess people don't game on macbook And don't hate on me using macbook to CS!

More like pity than hate. But yeah, if you're gaming, you do not want to use a hub. I honestly think the issue for your is that it's using USB 1.1, not 2.0.

This is the most likely cause, considering how cheap it was. Although for a simple KB/M i dont expect it to lag much... perhaps a higher end KB/m though would

When you decide to purchase a USB hub be sure to use a powered USB hub. That means a USB that has it's own DC input instead of using power over USB. That way you don't put stress on your computer's power supply to provide all of the extra power needed for any/all of the USB devices you plug in. I personally would not have purchased a five dollar USB hub off of EBay. I shop on newegg for all of my parts for personal and for all of my customers.
