Need help...and not sure what to do

okey so my moms computer is freaking out, when we turn it on, it loads up to the "Windows XP" screen then automatically restarts. Its really a pain in the butt. I looked at the HP website and it wasnt very helpful. My mom also called HP and they said to get the info off of the site >.< so its like a huge waste of time. Ive tried going into the system and it says "missing file hp/setup32" or something like that. Anyway, any suggestions guys? i need to get my moms computer up and running for two reasons, 1) so she can get her work done on it and access her files and 2) so she will get off mine!

Do you have the windows disk still? Not always reliable, but may beable to boot from the cd and run a repair.

Yeah, if you don't have the System Restore disk it sounds like you're going to have to reinstall Windows.

Will it boot into safe mode? Hold F8 as it starts up and see...

if you can access the last known hardware option i would give that a try sometimes that fixes things.

also, how old is the hp? HPs are known to have weak power supplies that can die and cause random problems like this.

well the hp isnt too old...had it like 2 years, it wont turn on in safe mode...and i cant find the install disk....this really sucks

What gardengrove said, your probably gonna have to reformat unless you get a stoke of luck, where it just works If the reformat dont work, then there is probably something wrong with your hardware =\ in that case, have someone look at it or if your not to attached to it, chuck her out and get a new one (or sell it to someone cheap if they want it)

If you can't find your recovery disks (I think that's what HP calls em) you can usually order a new set for 10-15 bucks or so. I've had to do that a few times. I wouldn't flat out reformat it, unless you have a usable copy of the operating system of your mom's choice laying around, which I'm guessing is going to be winxp.

i think there is something wrong with the cpu inside like y dont ya un-install everything then re-install it then try it then try safe mode or ur just gonna have to buy a 15$ reboot Cd or re formatt.
