Honestly... Im not sure if our pubs truly care for Anzio. I see a lot of dedicated pubs in Ava, Kalt, Donner and Strand, but I do not see a pub following of Anzio. I did a quick search of servers running Anzio, and at 12:30pm EST only 9 servers out of 112 running Anzio had players. And only 2 of those were above 1/2 max players. I just don't think that Anzio as a map in general draws a crowd. When I have tried to get pubs in on Anzio's event night, I hear a lot of them state they will not play Anzio at all.

Limiting classes may help, it may not. FF on or off may not matter if people just don't want to play the map. I do agree, a 50 point loss per friendly frag is kind of high, but we all know that points in this game are pointless(no pun intended).

What happened to Flash is happening to Anzio. When we had our "Flash Crew".. that map was doing great in the rankings and was Always full. Im wondering if its time to take a step back and look at Anzio itself. 631 dod servers and 112 are Anzio with little to no players. That may say something about the map itself.

Perhaps it is time to do a limited rotation server and have pubs and members vote on a new dedicated map. I just don't see its numbers getting any better.

sorry if I got off topic at all.

BTW.. I agree with Stormy 100%. And my poll vote is "no".

is there a way to see what our pubs want? In all honesty, if we don't have pubs play in a map, it will fail.

If we do limit assault class, it will be at the very most capped at 6, as stated in the OP. Anything higher than that, as some have stated indirectly, would make the alteration moot.

Dropping Anzio is not on the table right now. We have several options and routes to pick before we make that choice. Please try not to stray from the topic at hand.

I got a bit excited by Stormy's post(i still agree with it, though). But fine, i wont stray off the main topic.

I know that I don't frequently go to Anzio, as i mostly play in Donner, and Kalt at times. So i am aware that my previous posts may come off as hypocritical.

I'll try my to play within Anzio before Donner..but it isn't usually as interesting when there are less than 5 people inserver. [it may be an excuse, i know and sorry for that].

I personally don't think limiting the Assault class would have an positive impact on the server, but this is just my biased opinion. I did vote yes, after all, because i know actual results are always better than biased commenting.

So i will be 100% supportive of what the leadership decides to change in Anzio. :)

It is not class restrictions. It is not the FF. It is simply the fact that most DOD players do not like to play Anzio because rounds are over very quickly.

I made a request to eGO about this in the past but it was turned down. As more people are talking about it I guess I can bring it up again. The main problem with Anzio has always been that most players do not like fast rounds.

I play on 1st MRB server, 6th RB server, 99th ID server, along other realism-pub servers with rotation maps, and I see this problem over and over again. They have a full 32man server. Map switches to Anzio. They still have 32 players. Suddenly one team wins in 2 or 3 minutes. When that happens a few players leave, when that team wins again in 2 or 3 minutes, a few more players leave. After a little while the server is down 10 players.

Most DOD players like maps that take a while too win. That is why all the other maps are more popular. When there were more DOD players years ago it was easier to fill the server since there were more people that enjoyed this kind of fast rounds. But as of now not many people do.

I do not think you can limit or change anything about the map that will draw players unless you change the actual level design that will make Anzio last 20 minutes a round instead of 2 minutes a round. My suggestion been to customize it to triple flag caps, double mid cap, and demolition charges on the spawn flags, this way the map will last much longer and retain many more players.

Is the point of this thread to point out how bad some people are at constructing arguments using logic?

I believe the original post was quite clear, it may help to reread it. We have no problem guiding the conversation in a topical vein, but we aren't going to hold hands. We ask for your thoughts/opinions (ideally backed up by logic, statistics, facts, etc) on limiting the assault class on Anzio; this excludes arguments for or against map rotations, FF alterations, etc.

The original post is not clear as to what the issue is. If we're talking about server population, then why are we excluding all possibilities (FF alterations, map rotations, etc)?

Telling us that the link between the two is shaky at best, then asking us what the link is, is a rather unique methodology of argument. No need to guide you if you plan on answering all your own questions...

I was simply asking, what is the link between player classes and server population? Instead of critiquing the methodology or lack of evidence in every post, it might be helpful to provide some clarification by explaining the origin of the question. I might have my own opinion on the link between the two, but I wanted to hear yours (server administration perspective).

Obviously you have some thoughts on the subject, and those thoughts might facilitate a better discussion.

Honestly I am undecided, alot of good points are being made but with out the pubs backing the server I dont see it going anywhere. Yes some people say they hate FF on and yes people leave because they are loosing to many points. Now I dont play it much but I dont see how changing the class limit will help and I dont see how changing FF will help because I also in all fairness do not like Anzio that much and honestly I think the main reason is getting killed as soon as you get out of spawn it happens too much and that is why I think pubs dont play.

Blue, Im not saying we never get pubs on that server, we do.

But we never have pubs simply start up that server. Its almost 630 EST right now and I looked at the servers, and Anzio has 7 people in it. 6 eGO members and 1 pub. Unlike every other map, Anzio is never started up by pubs. You say it brings in the highest number of recruits for the recruit drives, thats because we have to support it the most just to get it started.

I understand you want this thread to stay on topic about limiting assaults on Anzio, but as a community we should be able to voice our opinion on what we want to do with this server. You guys up top should read this thread over, and make your decisions off that.

Right now this vote is only 4 away from "No" being in the lead. What if it wins? Nothing changes and Anzio stays a dead server? We're putting our ideas on the table that way if limiting the assault class doesnt work out you can reference back to this thread at a later date and say:
"Well crap, lets put a vote up for [Member]'s idea now, a lot of people agreed with it."

IMHO, 6 assault classes are fine with me since the support and rifle class are good, but I don't think this is necessary as well.

Good to see some change suggestions on anzio though! :D

I think that 5 or 6 is more than enough. on the normal day, you wouldnt have many more than that anyways. and it could be like the sniper class or rocket or MG. Someone could say, 'lemme know when assault is open' (sounds so silly to say that :) )

I voted yes, just to keep it from going overboard. I dont think it would change the way its played at all, only keep it from getting worse

Personally I think friendly fire adds a nice concept to it that many servers don't have anymore. I like it, and it makes it fun sometimes, but I could also understand why it might turn people away from the server

I like the cap on the assault class.... 6 seems fair in respect to how many people are generally in the server

Alrighty. Firstly, as far as the poll goes to limit the assault class on Anzio...

Umm, I'm undecided on whether or not it would work. I know that the Thompson and MP44 cause these unbelievable headaches over the amazing sniper accuracy and ridiculousness that occurs at times but, I guess I'm still wondering what point or purpose it would serve to limit the class. Is it meant to attract more players? Is it meant to force people to use the Support class or rifle class? etc.

Whether or not it would be effective or boost the numbers on Anzio... can't be sure. I guess similar to when the MGs were limited. In a sense, how does one gauge the effectiveness of limiting a class on a server and truly see if that led to a statistical rise in the server rankings, etc.?

No idea yet... just still hoping for the best.

I personally don't tend to hop on the servers much any more for my own personal reasons but I still feel I should share my opinion on this subject.

As much as I hated Thompsons in my day of playing, I don't think it took away from the game play at all. It's just a way for someone to complain when they die easily instead of just blaming themselves. Always has been, always will be. So, in all reality, when you all are wondering weather or not the Thompsons should be limited, just think of their importance:

1. They help new people to the game have a chance at actually doing decent until they get the hang of things.

2. The Thompson is a good method of class to use when you need to just go in and wipe everyone out. Its a rather strategic method of going about game play. I've seen plenty of people in my time playing this game use it in exactly that manner.

There's probably many other things that the Thompson could be used for that I'm sure Dutch could name and explain in great detail, but I can't really figure them all out right now since I'm at work as I type this. But, back on topic, in no way could I see limiting the Assault class help the status of the server. I vote no on the poll for that reason.

As for your other topic interruptions that are spread out around this thread, most of you are just digging up old topics or saying completely different opinions from the last time that Anzio's status conditions were brought up in question. The point being is Anzio needs help. Not with taking off FF, or with switching it to a rotation server, but with an influx of public players into the server. You just have to find a way to do that. Why not ask pub friends on your friends list what they'd want to see on Anzio and then have them ask their friends? That way you get direct information on what your target audience wants to see.

Forgive my off topic part of the post Blue.

You know what i thought would be cool. Get rid of prone-ing except for the MG class. Have it in the style of BC2. I have rage quit a lot due to some person in the middle of the street prone-ing or in a corner. Maybe its just me since i play a lot of non-prone-ing games, mostly Planetside 2.

I think im just done with campers. No matter what it all comes down to the game being popular again. I know we use to have comp's that sometimes had server specific. Also we should have Anzio advertisements other then minecraft ones -_-

However if we do limit the Assault Class you will be taking a huge gamble. It may work, it may not, but hey that is life. You either win at it or you lose at it.

P.S I saw 12 support classes yesterday on Donner for about an hour.

Cubey, in my opinion, hit the nail on the head. The map generally plays too fast for pubbers and winning/losing has and will always be a large factor in bodies leaving dedicated map servers. Changing the class limitations isn't going to help because I just don't see that particular change slowing the map down. As Cubey stated, Anzio plays fast because of the map layout and I absolutely agree that changing the cap structure has a good chance of slowing it way down.

Unfortunately, the problem then becomes how do you get pubbers who have already sworn Anzio off to try it out with the new structure? Anyhow, that's venturing off-topic enough to give Blue Stealth an aneurysm judging by his previous comments so I'll leave it at that.

@Blue Stealth
I believe the assault class should be limited even lower than 6. I feel like 5 would be more reasonable. 6/16 is close to 40% of the team being assault which I feel is too much, 5/16 which is closer to 30% seems fair.

I think the problem with anzio is that it DOES attract new players. We seed the server new players join and then start to lose 25 points per, and regular players start to leave. reductions of assault class should curb this problem.

Based on the -50 point penalty with friendly fire, I think we should do away with FF and limit assaults.

Thanks for the thread Lung

Rufio

I disagree with removing FF. The idea of friendly fire is to limit the "spray and pray" mentality.

So unless you are Mujahadin or Taliban, and want terrorism/Anti-American insurgency to win, FF must remain enabled. 'Murica.

So we should emplace a slow-motion version of Anzio.

I totally agree with this but not sure how to fix the main issue..... The 30 Cal might be completely limited to maybe 1 a team and take rockets out anzio is too small a map for a rocket and 2 30 cals.
