Cool thing I found out

So I was playing Garry's mod when a guy comes in my server named ";quit

He told everyone not to type his name in chat. So I decide to type his name in chat. This caused my game to quit so I decided to investigate. I discovered that "; is a short cut for console commands.

So if you type ";quit it will use the quit command in the console.

If you type ";echo test it will echo "test" in the console.

This short cut works anywhere in the sentence you are typing in chat.

This guy was breaking the rules of the server, so the admin wanted to kick him. The admin typed !kick ";quit but instead of kicking him it quit the admin's game.

I thought it was cool and since I didn't see anything about it anywhere else on the internet, I decided to post it here.

Interesting - never knew that. Only thing I've seen on a related note is a guy that joined with the name @all, and then when somebody tried to mute him, ended up muting everybody (because !mute @all is the shortcut to mute everybody on the server).

Just tried it out, that's pretty useful even though you are pressing 3 more buttons than just using the normal console; i.e. instead of just pressing "`" for console you are pressing "y shift ' ;". I guess it would eradicate the need to get out of the escape menu if you used normal console, which is nice.

I actually found this out on accident by typing ";kill while trying to show someone a bind.
