Hey guys I'm trying to figure some stuff out here. I know nothing about AMD, or rather I know nothing about MBs or CPUs in general. I was on the forums a little bit ago talking about building a $1000 PC with Intel CPU + MB. Then I noticed that AMD's CPUs is a lot less expensive. I'm looking at price over quality now (and yes I am still saving). I'm hoping to find a Quad core from AMD. I think from the prices I have seen so far, that a $100-$150 Quad core is not that unrealistic (possibly me being ignorant). Also Could you tell me if this is a good deal :P.

My parents GPU is the 460 gtx and it runs Skyrim on high quality. That is the game I play that requires the best out of the GPU. So I saw the Nvidia Geforce 650 ti for about $115. I was wondering what the equivalent of the 650 ti would be in AMD, and what the price is.

I cannot afford an SSD, and I have a 500GB HDD laying around. The 500GB HDD has been used so I'm going to put a new 500GB HDD in and slave the old one. I think I have that covered. Unless there is anything that I need to know besides for SATA 2 or 3.

Now to the GPU! what should I be looking for in pins, connectors, voltage, wattage and stuff.

With the RAM I am hoping for 8GB's.

I think optical drive, case and extra fans are that is left?
 
The quad core AMD 4300s aren't that great, with that said they will still run games okay.

It depends on the game but usually the 650ti non boost is somewhere between a AMD 7770 and 7790. I suggest looking up reviews of the cards and seeing how they perform in the games you care about the most. The 7850 is the best value for the dollar imo, so I would go with that if you can afford it.

Personally I would squeeze the extra $20 for a 64gb ssd over a 500gb HDD, but if you can't afford it then it's fine.

Do you really need an optical drive? I haven't used one in years. You can install windows from a USB flash drive.

You'll have to buy windows too if you can't "obtain" it from somewhere else.

Thanks thats a GREAT price! Is microcenter a safe place to buy from? (Like being scammed and all that stuff) We also cannot forget the OS. I would assume this is all 64-bit system.

yes microcenter is a great place to buy pc stuff along with other electronics.

Yeah Microcenter is awesome, if you live near one of their physical stores they have awesome sales most of the time you can get a CPU at a discount plus a mobo for practically free.
 
No offense, but dont go for an 8-core cpu, only to hinder yourself on 8gb of memory. You only have a budget of $1000, so you need to think reasonable. When it comes to a case, I say do your homework. Each persons case is based on their personality or their attitude. Get something that youll be happy with instead of just something that was suggested. Also, dont go for an el-cheapo $25-30 case. Be willing to set aside at least $50 for a good decent case that will provide excellent air flow.

One more thing; you will need to get a 64-bit OS since your system will have 8gb (or more in the future) in the system. Current 32-bit OS can only handle half that.

8gb is plenty for gaming and most things, and AMD quad cores aren't very good..

That's a good PSU too, I must have missed it when I was looking.
 
Hey do you think i would need a new cpu fan if i were to get the 8-core or would the one that comes with it work?
 
The default heatsink suffices; it ALWAYS suffices. The question is do you plan on overclocking the CPU or not. If yes, then you may want to invest in a 3rd party heatsink. If no, then just use the included one. The included one isn't that bad to use if you want to OC; you have to remember that Intel's CPUs have the default speed, and the additional turbo settings. The included heatsinks MUST work to handle the higher turbo clock.
