So my mom recently bought my sister a brand new Sony 32" led hdtv that was on sale @ the base. I noticed she had it sideways & my mom told me that the employees said it was fine to have it sideways. Is my thinking correct that the only place you shouldnt have it laying is on the bottom? Is letting it sit sideways really ok for the tv (while still in its box)?

It depends on the way it's packaged inside. Usually the styrofoam packaging (or whatever) is based around the bezel of the TV, and there would be nothing placed in front or with the screen size. With that all said, if you put too much stuff on the box it will bend, and then you may damage. For a quick trip in the trunk, it should be fine.

Plasmas will get damaged if you have them flat like screen facing down or up, LCDs are fine though.
Ya I wanted to give an update bout this hdtv. The outside box is in mint condition. There is no visible holes or scratches whatsoever. Overall, I dont think there will be anything wrong with the tv. However, if there is, im sure that my mom kept the receipt so that she can take it back to the base & get it replaced with another 1.
This was earlier Plasma's the current ones even give you a picture of you putting the TV mount on screen down. I think the TV will be fine and dandy.
