I believe that "community" is not the term that should be used to describe eGO. It is more like a family than anything.
I believe eGO to be a community of people that got tired of the lawless public severs grouping together to create a better tomorrow for gaming as a whole. Our punk-free philosophy may be the foundation but our strive for enjoyably gaming is what bonds us.

It is necessarily inclusive. If it weren't, the servers would be password protected, there would be no pubs, and everything would suck.

eGO community is like highschool.
The popular kids get whatever they want and are the first ones to get awards.
The new kids coming in everyone ignores or doesnt take them seriously.
The class clowns are people who are fun to be around at events, but not to actually be friends with.
The faculty and staff wont listen to the students about important matters, unless there is chaos.
The principal is pretty cool though, but doesnt really talk much.
The junkies are outcasts.
The anime kids are everywhere and people let them enjoy their cartoons and furry pride.
And theres me, DAN THE MAN.

This seems kind of like a trick question...
What you describe is False dilemma, It can happen on purpose or accident. That or you it cannot be an inclusive group because they have to follow a set of rules which makes it exclusive to the people who want to follow them.
Then again, i find the goal of eGO to be an inclusive community where it is ideal to have everyone welcome, but in some areas this is not the case. I find that current eGO is very open and while i can only speak of the OP:X area as of now, most of the leadership there are great people. I know Monkie makes an effort to point out that everyone who wants to learn how to play competitively in world of tanks can and they even offer training events.
I think sums it up the best. It depends (Brings back CS:S 2010 memories), but eGO as a whole is based of being inclusive to everyone as long as they follow rules and just want to have a great time.

I like to think that when people come to play on our servers, they like the punk free environment and then after that, the kind of players who are collectedly attracted to having such an environment. In short, we generally get good people playing on our servers which is always a big plus.
When pubbers see what our servers are like, they get a feel for what our community is like. Afterall, the servers and members are a direct reflection on Edgegamers as a whole.
When players join eGO then they really get to see and meet the people behind the whole thing and from there, of course we have a kind of friendly atmosphere and weirdly family environment. Each division of course has its own characteristics and members who make them unique, and it all adds to the amazing diversity Edgegamers has
