Need Help (USB 3.0 and HDD)

Had a new computer for a few months now and all works except two major issues. I cannot get any of my USB3.0 ports to work and my computer won't recognize my second HDD (2TB). My computer sees the second hard drive in "device manager" but won't recognize it in Windows Explorer, etc. Running Windows 8 and specs are below. Thanks for any help!

throw in your win 8 disk... and do a format on the drive.. should be seen then. and if that doesn't work.... make sure its not plugged into a sata 6Gb/s port if its a sata 3Gb/s drive.

make sure you properly connected the USB 3.0 cable to the mobo. make sure its plugged into the right port, it is possible to plug the cable into a USB 2.0 port. (they are usually a different color)

I had the same problem with my USB 3.0 ports before. It seems that your USB 3.0 connector is properly connected. Have you tried installing the drivers from the CD that came with your motherboard?

As for the HDD problem, does it contain any important file in it? If not, then I could suggest a method for you via Disk Management.
 
Go to disk management. The drive has to be partitioned to be seen
 
haha, the second drive works now. still not sure about the usb 3.0.
 
Where is the USB 3.0 connector located? I've been looking for USB 3.0 drivers on the ASUS website for my mobo and I don't see any.

Yours is the cable below the 24pin power supply cable. It branches off into 2 cables from 1 input. 19 pins.

I see that you have the USB 3.0 cable from the front ports of your case plugged into your motherboard just below the 24 pin power connector. That should be the right spot as it even says it on the MOBO in small white text so confirm that. Does device manager show any missing drivers of any kind? If your MOBO manufacturer literally doesn't have WIN8 drivers for your USB 3.0 ports then I would attempt the WIN7 drivers. Make sure to use the proper version of the driver (x86 or x64 - 32 or 64 bit). A lot of hardware including printers will still work on old OS drivers if the new OS doesn't have support from that manufacturer.
