4th Annual eGO DoD FF League

Aw Yea. Only 4th last year but at least my Ravens are champs.

I'll be aiming for you Faceman ... unless Efren get Rogers and Cobb again then were all screwed.

Keep aiming, Faceman is out this year:p

Anyone new, please make sure you are committed for the entire season, we had an issue with a newcomer last year.

Just to expand a little on Wewo's note, this is the general timeline of our 2013 FF season:

  • live online draft in late August 2013
  • regular season games every week (Thurs-Mon)
  • 3 playoff weeks in December 2013

The typical minimum time commitment would be something like a couple of hours a week, consisting of setting your team's weekly lineup, and perhaps adding/dropping some players on your team if you so desire. That said, if you really want to be competitive in this league (and don't have the benefit of FF gurus you can rely on like Kiwi does with his roommates and gf), you will probably want to allocate a couple more hours each week to reading up on football news (e.g. who's injured, playing well, suspended and so on and so forth) so you can make more educated moves and/or possibly indulge in some trading.

When a manager or team owner goes 'inactive' it has negative repercussions throughout the league -- since we use a "head-to-head" weekly matchup system, those teams scheduled to play against the inactive team suddenly get a walkover matchup, which causes the league to become unfairly imbalanced.

In other words, signing up for this league is thus a semi-long-term commitment spanning August through December, that almost all our participants since 2010 have been able to fulfill.

If you dont want to not be hated by all FF owners please, please be around for the whole season.

If the interest remains high, could we explore expansion? I know that with 20-team leagues the talent and backup availability gets really diluted, but perhaps a split into two separate 10-team leagues?

Unless I start hearing back from Fight, ant, mufflington, and Invictus, we're currently projecting for 18 managers/teams. The most I've personally done in the past has been 16 teams, but I know an 18-teamer would certainly be doable, and we'd just have to adjust the divisions (probably going from 4 divisions of 4 each, to 2 divisions of 9 each), roster and starting lineup requirements.

If we get at least 24 we can form two separate 12-team leagues, but I am fully against any 10-team leagues -- in my experience pretty much zero skill is needed in 10-team league drafts, simply putting your team on autodraft mode will net you a very competitive team and so luck plays too much of a part.

We still have a lot of time so I'll wait till this weekend to hear back from Fight, ant, mufflington, and Invictus, before I start opening up their spots to the rest of the guys on our waiting list.

Just remembered that we had discussed the possibility of a keeper league this season. Any thoughts on this Skippy?

Here is the discussion we had on it last year --

My opinion on converting our redraft league into a keeper league remains unchanged. Keeper leagues are fine for hardcore/longterm FF fans (of which some of us here in DoD eGO are), but there are several factors that convince me it's not the best idea for our purposes here --
  • we often have a decent amount of manager turnover each year, and looking for new owners to inherit abandoned teams already at a disadvantage for the next year will make it tougher
  • we also have some FF rookies join us each year and having a keeper league format would just add to the learning curve they have to overcome
  • managers of a team with crappy keeper prospects might just decide not to return the following season, in that regards a "clean slate" each season is preferable

That said, if the overwhelming majority of our league (I can put up a poll on our Yahoo league page when everyone has registered) want to switch to a keeper system, I won't stand in their way. Another option of course is to set up a separate keeper league for those who are interested in that format.
