What do y'all think about gameME rank?

The title has the question I want to ask. I've been working hard at spending time in the servers, being vigilant for my admin duties, and generally just having fun playing TF2 on eGO's great servers, but I realize I've become a slave to my gameME rank.

For those who are unfamiliar, gameME points are based on certain events, such as killing another person, to distribute points. If you kill someone with more points than you, you'll in turn get more points. If you get killed by someone, you also get points taken away, more points if they're below you in rank.

I think it's a great way to track your progress, but once you get near the top, it can be frustrating when a bad luck streak takes away some points and makes you slip in ranks. Occasionally I find myself frustrated for some reason, and once I identify it, I can asses what's the problem, and accept it and move on.

In summary: gameME to me is a great way to track my progress, but occasionally gets frustrating trying to climb the ranks, when some dude that just joined the server can take away 25 points from me, while I can only scrape 2 of theirs. The title of this point system however should serve as a reminder that it's just a game, and that they're just arbitrary points to a game that's more about hats than it is about guns.

I'm not always frustrated, that's not what you should take from this. Most of the time you can hear my playful and witty banter in voice chat while I high five at the enemy spawn with scouts dancing on my head, I just mean to point out the aspects of gameME that really stand out in eGO servers.

And please don't break my heart with a one sentence reply after I typed this wall of text.

I guess I don't have to worry about being anywhere near the top, unless I've been doing a lot better without realizing it. But since I don't pay attention to my rankings I guess I'll never know if I should be stressed about it or not.

Well, it has a message in chat every time I get a kill, and with my adhd, often I'm distracted by floating letters on my screen, so I look at the chat box all the time and see it there. If something does grab my attention and interest, I'll focus it down like a hawk seeking its prey, and you can't get in my way. Of course I have no idea what my goal is, but it's to get higher I guess. The real fun in this game is silliness and fun in voice chat. I wish more people would use their mics in game.

I like the GameME ranks. I don't really worry too much about my kill to death ratio, so my ranking isn't ever that high. If anything I try to play classes and roles that I'm not very good at so that I can improve. I like to check my ranking once in a while so that I can see my stats, but it's just for fun. I'm not really worried about how good or bad they are. You can always hide the messages if they stress you out.

I never worry about it. I don't really care about what I'm ranked or how well the GameME system says I'm doing, because playing is all about having fun, not necessarily a rank.

But if I hide gameME, I might hurt its feelings... I wouldn't want to do that to anybody D:

To be honest, I've never cared too much about ranks. Even back in my CoD4 days, I had around 14000:17000 kd ratio.
As for gameME, while I don't really use it, I leave it on to sometimes glance at it for a sec and see how bad I am.
As for voice chat ingame, get Vent

I wouldn't say I intentionally cared about ranks, but it's one of those nagging things at the back of my mind that I've just brought in to focus and thought about. At this point I don't know if I "care" about my rank, but I do like the fact that I've been on eGO servers a lot, and there is a way I can show that in fact I do like eGO and come here a lot :D

Here. think about it this way.

Gameme rank is a mix of how well you're doing at the moment, and how much you have worked up to now.

If you go down, you're having a bad streak. In all honesty, it's probably time to get off. You've most likely been playing too much TF2 by that time anyway.

Normally I do take a break if I find myself frustrated, even by a tiny bit. If I let frustration cloud my judgement then clearly it's going to far. Knowing when to disengage and set something down is a good skill to have. And is it possible to play too much tf2? :P

Yes, I've done it before, and Adeptus is about to very soon.

It's not good.

Especially with M Dew and Doritos.

I like gameME, though I think about it way too much. It panders to my inner self. I hate competition. However, if that competition involves points...

Well, it's the best way to get me going.

If I get frustrated I go heavy or demo and earn back those sweet, sweet gameMe points.
In all seriousness, I have noticed that when I start dying a lot or getting in over my head, I'll hit that tab button and realized we have far too many spies or snipers or even a few idle players.

This is a team game, and your tf2 performance isn't in a vacuum. If your team is intractable or just plain dumb (sorry to sound mean, but it happens), find another server or even switch teams. I take great (if perverse) pleasure in team switching to immolate the 6 failspies that refused to switch.

Aye, I believe GameME is nice N all, but as Sanctified said, team-game, cannot hold a team of 10 others up by yourself, nor can you drag them down by yourself. I tend to ignore GameMe entirely and just gauge myself by whether or not I feel I did by job that round as whatever class I was. And aside from that, there are a lot of ways to amass points in GameME apart from kills/deaths. Good ol' extinguishing players, capping, pushing cart, deploying uber, building tele I think, AND THERE SHOULD BE the of course impossible but amazing BONUS FOR being a team player and switching from spy/sniper even though you are the best of that on your team because you already have 5 of those!! That would be cool.

Super Nova, I was going to reply seriously to your post, but KITTENS WHAT WAS I TALKING ABOUT!?

I know gameme_vanish 1 has already been mentioned, but obviously not enough times. I was reluctant to make it go away, but when I did, I honestly felt so much better because I wasn't constantly reminded of it. You can still be frustrated if you do poorly, of course, but that's only if you let it. And at that point, as you've said, it may be better to just get off.

And of course, if you're interested, you can always type !rank or check the website for gameme info. Eh.. I mean, it is what it is. Not seeing GameME frees you to be ok with doing more stupid random FUN stuff sometimes
