Printer w/ multiple issues

So for the last week, my moms printer has been giving me plenty of grief. Originally the black ink was supposedly out, so I changed that. Heres where it gets interesting. The printer says that the brand new cartridge is out of ink. About 30 mins ago, I decide to clean the print head (meaning all around it since its easily able to be removed) & notice quite a bit of black/dark ink all around the print head, so I clean that up. I decide not to touch the square part (since thats where the ink gets transferred to the paper). Now its telling me that the color ink cartridge is out & to switch that out. I do as told & it repeats that. Now its telling me to reinstall the printhead like before. Should I look into possibly switching out the printhead (since this printer has been so good to my mom & I) or what should I do?

Its a Kodak ESP 5250.

can't you just ignore the low ink level warnings?

if you know the ink is full then? lol

Usually the software that either comes with the printer or a version that you can download designed for that printer has maintenance options like cleaning the print head, etc. Try those options first.
