Took me a while to get used to but Windows 8 is the best so far for me.

I cannot believe more people think Vista was a better OS than Mac OS X
Here's my ranking:
OS X 10.6 > 10.8 > 10.7 > 10.5 > 10.4 > 10.3 > Various Linux distros > 7 > 8 > Vista
(Note: when OS X 10.9 is released it will be above 10.6 on my list)

I'm a Linux man myself, but I'd have to say Windows 7. Kudos to Microsoft for bringing a modern, stable equivalent. XP was awesome and now we have Windows 7. We'll be 4 versions down the road and will have people still on 7, 10 years after it's conception.
Ubuntu 13 is pretty awesome though. Lots of amazing improvements, if only AMD/ATI driver support was more like the native nvidia support.

Anything but 8!!
Tried XP for years; never had a problem. Then went to Vista; issue after issue after issue. I just bought a new PC, pre-loaded with 8; stinks!!!!
The learning curve is not easy. The system may be great for social media, but I have a work machine that I use for gaming.
Dumping bloatware and loading my software was difficult. ("You don't have admin privileges and oh, by the way, we don't have admin settings!") A whole bunch of apps are "standard" whether I'll ever use them or not, and adding/deleting apps is not just a few clicks away.
This might be great for a tablet or smartphone, but for work it stinks.

How many people said Vista to troll? 
The day after I write the above, my "Windows 8 Experience" is interrupted so I could get an unsolicited ad for the Windows 8 Twitter App.
Seriously, there I am surfing the web and I'm suddenly redirected to a Windows web site so I can download an app I'll never use. I don't tweet; I don't care what the Kardashians or any other pseudo-celebrity might tweet. My pop-ups are supposedly blocked, I wasn't on a web site even remotely related to Twitter.
Windows 8 sucks.

After 3 months of using my Macbook, I forced myself to partition the hard drive to get Windows just because I can't stand not being able to play all the games I enjoy for PC. Windows XP saved me early 2000's, and 7 is honestly the best platform since.
It would have to be Vista.
The jump from XP was smooth as all hell since my PC was overkill already at the time. Vista was admittedly a fucking heavy resource hog, but at least I didn't have to use a DX10 hack for XP and stuff.
And the core upgrades that Vista had over XP was enough to keep me there, the search bar and everything.
Then 7 came, and it was all amazing. Smaller memory footprint and everything!
8 came, I was like, uh, no thanks, don't like the Metro UI, but then after 10 minutes of googling I found Classic Shell.
8 is better than 7 in every single way, especially for SSD users.
Now on 8.1, kinda regret taking that step.. Avast and Comodo Firewall don't really work, so... hm.. I don't feel safe. But other than Avast and Comodo being slow at updating their software, I'd have to say that 8.1 is pretty smooth. No issues so far after 4 months of use.
