Issue installing ESET antivirus

So I purchased a family security pack, which will offer protection on 5 pc's or mac's. However, im already having an issue installing it on my desktop. Its giving me an error message that ESET is trying to stop & that I dont have sufficient privileges to stop the process. Why would I want to stop a process when im trying to install it? Doesnt make any sense.

Anyways, I emailed them Thursday afternoon & still have yet to hear back from them. Any ideas from you guys who current use the software?

Before you even ask, yes my previous antivirus software is already uninstalled.

If this were my problem I would start by following the instructions here: ESET Manual Uninstall

The first thoughts that come to my mind as to the reason why you're experiencing this issue is either there is a corrupt file within the ESET software during the install or there is malware on your system. Try uninstalling this software as shown in the link above including using their uninstall tool first. Once that is completed, restart your computer and try the installer again. If you continue to get the error it would not hurt to make sure your system is clean by running an updated malwarebytes scan in safe mode while you wait to hear back from ESET regarding this issue.

Edit: Also if you're installing this on Windows, try to make sure you're right clicking on the file and running the installer as administrator and see if that helps.

Ok well for some odd reason they seem to think it needs to get uninstalled when it hasnt been installed in the first place. It has been almost a week now with no resolution. I am very unimpressed with them.

That is what I was suggesting by using the uninstall. While you were installing a file was corrupted at some point. The idea is to remove whatever little amount was put into the registry and or file system and start from scratch. Look at my previous post and try the link I posted to see if that helps. Try running the installer as administrator by right clicking the install file and choosing the run as administrator option when you are ready to install again. Be sure to restart your computer after a successful uninstall.

Hey Sicko, I first want to apologize. The fact that the software wasnt getting installed wasnt actually a fault of Eset. I actually found out that Trend Micro had uninstalled BFE (base filtering engine), which is required to help with security. So ya, needless to say, im gonna email Trend Micro & rip them a new one. Whats even worse is the fact that my mom just spent $70 on them yesterday, so im gonna have her take the package back & get her $70 back. Yes, the $70 was the cheapest one available (she got it at the base, which helped her save on taxes). Also it was great because of the fact that I got to speak with a real American on the phone (unlike Dell or other companies), so I told the lady that I was gonna send a complimentary email to her lady about my experience with her. They definitely got back on my good side. I am again very impressed with them.

I just use the free antivirus software such as Microsoft Security Essentials. ESET makes good products but man... none of these programs are bullet proof and you can get infected the same if the user isn't careful. Why spend money on something like this? I fix computers all day long and none of them can possibly cover zero day attacks. There is always going to be some guy/gal sitting behind a computer coming up with something malicious to hinder your system or trick you out of money. Best advice is use something proven to be good like MSSE that is free, use safe browsing habits, don't trust links in emails and always scan files you download. Download only from trusted sources and then question it by scanning. Your money is better sitting in your bank account man. Hope I've helped you with this.
