Upgrading some parts in My PC need HELP

OK so basically my end goal here is to upgrade my computer to be able to take DDR 3 Ram ( 8Gigs(4gX2))
Upgrade my video card to something more recent ( nvidia 660's) and change my motherboard to accommodate the ddr3 RAM

My current setup is this

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz

4 gig DDR2 Crucial gaming

ASUS P5Q Motherboard

Nvidia 9800 GTX+

Planning on downgrading my windows 8 to windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

my budget is around 300$ +/-

Suggestions guys? :P
 
Not really doable on the budget for any worthwhile upgrade of your cpu, mobo, and ram. That alone will eat that budget up whereas a gtx 660 alone is over half your budget. So basically, you need a little more money.

Also, what power supply you got?
 
Im gonna do some shopping around for the parts maybe some used stuff ill see, but the motherboard needs to be ddr 3 compatible with a 775 chipset for my proccesor.

i have a corsair 850 Powersupply, ( my current setup uses around 600) the upgrade shouldnt take that much extra juice...

But say we put budget aside. What parts would be ok not needing to be top of the line items but just something thats gonna make it happend?
 
What are you trying to play? If your budget isn't huge, it might be easier to get a new card, and leave the processor for a later date. Its not a bad processor by any means.

There are only 3 motherboards sold by newegg still on the 775 chipset, and only one qualifies with a DDR3 standard you want, and based on the reviews, I would NOT recommend it.

Your best bet may very well be looking for a used or refurbished board, as I didn't see any offerings worth the price.

I'm thinking your best option is to honestly save up enough money to upgrade the motherboard, CPU, and RAM all at once.

Don't waste money on old components unless you can get them for super cheap. Just get the GPU for now and save up for a CPU+Mobo+RAM
At the moment I would recommend an FX-6300 or 8320 if you can afford it and a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3. That will be around $250 including the RAM

+1, don't waste your time trying to update seriously out dated parts. Save your $ and buy all the parts at 1 time. 4th gen intel was just released so wait a few months for the prices on the 3rd gen parts to drop.
 
Get around $500 and then look at getting some new parts, your pc will last much longer.

Also windows 8 is very minimalistic, why are you downgrading? If you add in classic shell you get back the start button. I personally have windows 8 enterprise and I love it, it even comes with bitlocker which is near impossible to bruteforce
 
I was also thinking if possibly jut getting an nvidia 660ti and some better ram sticks.

I want 8 gigs of ram total but i dont know if its possible in ddr2 with only 2 sticks

above is a link to all ddr2 ram on Newegg... there are 4gb kits, 8gb kits and 16gb kits, all just 2 sticks.

you will need to get the specs on your mobo to see how much RAM in GB's you can actually install.

EDIT: your mobo can handle a max of 16gb's RAM.

DDR2 RAM is insanely expensive, even if you get it used somewhere, 4GB DDR2 is at least the same price of 8GB DDR3

Just save up and get your moneys worth.
You already have good PSU. So WAIT and get mobo+cpu+ram and gpu.
 
just kinda sucks seeing im going to end upc hanging absolutly everything in the computer!
 
I just got a hell of a deal from a friend I just picked up a EVGA 670 GTX FTW (2678) Hope this will boost my performance a hella lot

its already 4 times more onbour GPU ram then the one I have...

just missing those Ram sticks and it should be good!
