Well, summer is officially here, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice, has passed us by. I'm not sure about everyone else, but the northeast is experiencing a heat wave, complete with thunderstorms and brown-outs. My only advice is to keep your bodies and your computers cool and dry, and save up for that enormous electric bill. This month, our cadre of reporters fill you in on how several Divisions have prepared for the busy summer season (oh, I forget to tell you that no school = more gaming?). This month you will also be treated to a special article revealing some of the mysteries surrounding the elusive Media Team, and a heart-felt discussion of the intimate friendships formed in eGO. Stay cool and celebrate Ego's seventh Birthday.

For this month's edition of Meet the Leadership I had the privilege of interviewing two of EdgeGamers newest Advisors, Ashley and Q-tip.

Q: As new Advisors, what are your roles in the Community?

Q-tip: I have been more involved with the Event Coordinating aspect of things, though my main strength, I would say, would be that I’m a people person so I’m here to help everybody. I usually resolve issues with the divisional members and help people out as best as I can.

Ashley: Right now I am mainly Divisional Support. I help members who have any problems, take care of Ban contests/requests and the CS dropbox, I help out with anything that may arise in the division, and I assist Machine Gun Rush with recruitment.

Q: When you got promoted, did leadership troll you in any way, and if so, what did they do?

Q-tip: No, not this time, Lungbuster4417 had talked to me privately asking me if I wanted to be an Advisor, then we went into a meeting with other members of leadership. When the meeting was done I was told that I was selected out of all other candidates. It did however take me a good hour to close out all the congratulatory chat windows; but no, no trolling this time.

Ashley: I was in the TF2 versus CS:S scrim event with a bunch of leadership when C-WHiT banned me and made it look like I was wallhacking. I had just updated TF2 so I thought that I had done something. I was getting spammed on Steam and Vent, being asked to contest the ban. So I got pretty nervous at that point until C-WHiT told me I was a promoted!

Q: What got you interested in Day of Defeat and Counter-Strike.

Q-tip: About three and a half years ago my friend got a box set which had CS:S, DOD:S and Halflife 2. They went out for the day, so I went on their computer and started playing DoD:S. When I upgraded my computer, it made the game more fun to play and I got hooked, so now I play the game all the time.

Ashley: I've always had interests in CS:S because I'd always see my friends play it. They ended up giving it to me as a gift one Christmas and I joined the Highschool server not really knowing what I was doing. I joined eGO from there and got more and more addicted to CS:S.

Q: Ashley, as a female in leadership, and in the community generally, what are your views and thoughts? Any hardships or differences because of gender?

Ashley: Being a girl in a male dominating community is hard, girls get trolled, and verbally abused. The attention girls get isn’t always positive but you can't let it get to you.

Q: Q-tip, you have on your profile that you're a gun enthusiast, like golfing and that you’re a builder in a wood workshop. What kind of guns do you like, have you ever played professional golf, and what kind of things do you build?

Q-tip: Well, I build cabinets, display units for the local grocery stores around Phoenix, the ones the bread usually go on. Though I have done painting, finishing, staining, as I’ve been at my present job for six years. I’ve never played professional golf, I just play it for fun, and even though I’ve taken lessons and gotten better I know I’m still terrible at the game. My favorite gun would have to be my Great-Grandfathers from the American-Spanish war. It’s a Springfield Rifle, 1903 Springfield Krag, to be exact. It’s in great shape for being so old, and after I got it cleaned up I now take it to the firing range; it fires so smoothly.

Q: What are your favorite TV shows? Movies? Books?

Q-tip: I like reading science fiction, but as of late I don't have the time to do so. As for watching TV, I mostly watch sports, but I'm mostly on the computer. As for movies, I love comedies, and though I can’t pick one favorite for sure, I’d have to say that Pulp Fiction would definitely be high on the list.

Ashley: My Favorite TV show, when I do watch TV, would have to be Vampire Diaries. For movies I’d have to say anything animated, so Wreck-it Ralph, Despicable Me, and Toy Story are just a few of my favorites.

Q: If you had to summarize your divisional game in two words what would you choose and why?

Q-tip: Frustratingly fun. It’s so hard to get a good roll going however when you start doing well, that one time makes all the difference.

Ashley: Action-packed. I’ve been scrimming a lot on CS:GO and it’s just a very action packed game, especially with the competitive environment.

Q: What is your favorite color?

Q-tip: Blue

Ashley: Purple

Q: What do you think of eGO as a whole?

Q-tip: It's like one big family. There’s so many really cool people that you get to meet, either by playing with them or just talking to them over Vent. I like meeting new and old members, and I feel like I fit really well here. There are really fun people in all divisions, and it’s been a blast so far. DOD:S is where I spend all my time, there’s lots of really cool people there and some have even become personal friends. Not to be repetitive, but we're really like one big family.

Ashley: Wonderful community, I’m so glad to have found it, there are fewer trolls because eGO limits that, there are promotions and awards which give you a goal and the forums are fun to go on, it’s just great!

Q: What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you?

Q-tip: Well at the time it wasn't funny, but my seat number was called at a hockey game to go out on the ice. I was in my tennis shoes, so when I stepped out on the ice, I ended up slipping and fell on my ass with 15,000 people watching me. I'm sure they thought it was hilarious.

Ashley: When I was in the eighth or ninth grade one of my friends dared me to go down a hill in a shopping cart. It was fun until the cart hit a pebble and toppled over, and I broke my wrist and received various cuts and bruises, but we were laughing about it. Sometimes the stupidest things can also be the funniest.

Hello everyone, for this Clan Wide Interest article I'd like to discuss the topic of friendship.


This powerful tool held deep inside the foundation of eGO is what has kept me (and surely sure many of you as well) from leaving this fine community.


One of the most profound aspects of friendship that eGO gives its members is that it is not restricted to one division in particular. The friends that I have made are dispersed throughout the community. I have friends in TF2, DOD:S, CS and even games I do not have, but still like to talk to their members. It's fascinating how much you have in common with members and how close of a friendship you can create even without owning the game(s) they play.


Another aspect of this is that the bonds you create with these members are sometimes stronger than the ones that you've created in your personal life (away from your computer). I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels more comfortable explaining your problems to members of eGO and even your leadership team. You aren't worried about what they will think because of the close bond you've created. Many of my worries and troubles are solved rather quickly just talking to someone I have never met in real life.


Retention. I believe another important factor for why eGO has prospered so much (aside from our rules) is that the community is so welcoming and inviting of new members. Sometimes, that can be overwhelming. New members that come into the community feel as though they have been friends with veteran members from the beginning of eGO founding and continue to hold that until the day they leave. I have been to plenty of gaming communities and I can attest that this one, by far, has shown me a true sense of friendship beyond what many other communities could offer.


I would like everyone to thank that one friend, or friends, that kept you going in EdgeGamers. Many times we forget the real reasons that we've stayed here so long and I believe this is one of them. Sure, there are many other reasons that I and others have stayed, but without that one friend, that was there to play a game with you when you were bored, or there to talk when you were feeling down, I am sure many of us would have left.


Friendship is a key factor here, and with the strong influence it has behind the scenes, we will continue to prosper as a well-oiled gaming community.

As a special article for this month I had the pleasure of interviewing Media Team Leader, Dead Tom.

Q: What does the Media team actually do?

A: The Media Team uploads gaming videos to YouTube, prepares division generated promo videos when asked, and posts videos that the community submits.

Q: What is your role within the Media Team?

A: I am the Media Team leader, so I am the producer of every video. I make sure that every project team has what it needs to complete it, that everything is running smoothly, as well as make any necessary threads that are needed for the production to be seen.

Q: What are the requirements to join?

A: You must be a member of EdgeGamers. You need not have your G or O to join, so if you are an e with either video editing experience, sound editing experience, or have a project idea that we actually use, you will be brought on either for that specific project or to help edit other projects.

Q: Where can we find information about the Media Team?

A: Since there really is no thread, the centralized spot would be me, so feel free to PM me any questions that you may have.

Q: Other than the Media Team, what are your other duties within eGO?

A: I am also a PSC Division Leader, so I delegate to my Advisors anything that may need to be handled around the division. I coordinate with different divisions about DAPS, and I have fun people to work with, and help me. You could say it’s like one big, cohesive family.

Q: How can someone submit something to the Media Team?

A: If you go to this thread (that’s still hasn't been replied to), it has all the rules about what we look for in submissions. Basically it must be eGO appropriate and mainly about gaming. This is not a thread intended for ban demos, rather a place where demos or videos are submitted to go on the YouTube channel. There is a link in that thread that tells you how to upload to an FTP website. So basically anyone who can connect to the internet and can upload to an FTP server can submit media.

Q: What do you look for in submissions?

A: We look for short, entertaining videos, or tutorials which may be around 15 minutes long. We prefer that the videos be the final product and not something that we have to finish. If you do ask us to finish, we will use artistic license to complete it as we see fit.

A: The community’s YouTube channel is: www.youtube.com/EdgeGamers. Go subscribe now!

Hello and welcome to another month of PSC information. eGO is seven years old and still growing strong and steady with the able assistance of the PSC. This is, in no small part, thanks to CopperAle, who has recently been promoted to Divisional Council, representing the PSC. CopperAle would like to express thanks to 2sl0w, stating "He helped to bring about many changes in the PSC and his leadership was invaluable. He will be transitioning his focus to the BF division full time to help bring about exciting changes there."

DaddyO has to stepped down as PSC Advisor for real life reasons, after dedicating a year of his time to EdgeGamers, first as an Advisor for MC and then the PSC. We wish him all the best and thank him for all he has done.

The Battlefield Division is hosting a recruiting contest co-hosted by the PSC from July 1st to August 31st. Top prize is a Motherboard. Check out the Battlefield Division discussion for more info.

The PSC is always recruiting. If you’re an eG or eGO member and looking to do more in the community feel free to ask any PSC Leadership member for an application.

Noobs, zombies, and hide 'n seek. What do these three subjects have in common? They are each Call of Duty events that have taken place this past month. You can read up on the events in the COD division's Announcement section here.


The Noob Night Event is an evening filled with players who like to have fun and don't want to hear about how they are mismanaging their choices of guns, sniper spots, or lack of skill. Enjoy an evening of stress free gaming during Noob Night. Be proud of your Noobness.


"Moan, argh, zerbert." What?? Zombies!?! Run for the hills! When you get that urge to kill the undead, come to COD's Zombie event. Hone your zombie killing skills here before a zombie apocalypse hits our planet.


We've all played hide n' seek in and outside of our homes. Remember the fail places? Behind the curtains where our feet stick out, under the bed until the dust makes us chokes and cough, or getting stuck in those itty bitty spots behind the boxes in the storage closet. That was good times. Come to a COD Hide N' Seek event and disguise yourself as an everyday object and try to outsmart enemies on various maps by hiding in plain sight.


Keep your eyes peeled for more events coming out from the COD division in July.

It was quite the active month for the CS division in June. Ranging from promotions, server changes, and returning events, we have a lot of stuff in store for you guys this Newsletter.


Starting with the Minigame Server, it was opened up to the public on June 5th 2013 and is a conversion from the previous Crackhouse. The Minigame server ranking soared high and even beat Jail in server ranking for a day. It jumped from #3213 to #434 as of the writing of this news article. This could not have happened without Christy's expertise and the members who helped test the maps; thank you.


While Ashley's promotion is not the latest news, she deserves some praise here. As you may have known, Ashley was a recruiting coordinator, admin trainer, and event coordinator. Needless to say, CS Leadership felt that Ashley would be an excellent addition to a magnificent leadership team. With a snap of their fingers, Ashley was promoted to a CS Advisor. Ashley helps with divisional support and the recruiting program with MACHINE GUN RUSH.


Jail is on the rise in rankings. Ever since the re-haul there's been nothing but good news with Jail. Thanks to Christy spending a lot of time and dedication, Jail has been transformed. These changes range from new skins for Prisoners and the ability to become small to adding new maps, credits and more. CS Leadership even have their own custom skins now. Hey admins, make sure you keep up to date with the Jail rules by taking a Jail Admin Course when it's available.


CS division's recruiting program had a crazy month as well. They adopted a program called CS Bros. In short, it's a program where senior members help the new members get familiar with our great community. We've even had a June recruiting contest this month thanks to MACHINE GUN RUSH, C-WHiT, and a couple of others. As always, CS would like to thank MGR for his positive attitude, always willing to lead our recruiting in the right direction, and just for being a great person to be around.


Are you a gungame fanatic? Good news, it has made a comeback to the CS events program! For a while, gungame was disabled due to incompatibility issues, but once again, Christy has saved the day and upgraded it to work with Counter-Strike: Source again. Make sure you keep an eye out for it in future events, you could win some prizes.


The CS admin trainers adopted two new Jail Admin Trainers and a basic admin trainer, Drew-X, TheJollyRoger and RogueOps. Drew-X and TheJollyRoger both teach, handle, and are the top-notch goto guys when it comes to Jail admining questions, problems, and support. Drew-X is the primary Jail Admin Trainer and TheJollyRoger is his backup. We're positive they will equip Jail admins with the right stuff. RogueOps handles basic admin training and general support. His admin knowledge exceeds our expectations. We're very glad to have new faces on our team.

You leave Axis spawn, hear shooting in your courtyard, get there quickly, juke to the left and find that a sewer rat has ascended and is jumping over the wall to your second flag. Of course, you shoot him in the butt and turn to see an Ally jumping out of a shaft into a crouched position. You better hit him in the head or you’re dead!


Phew, got him, now its your turn to reek havoc in the sewers. You climb down the ladder, careful not to break a leg. Since you’ve done this so many times you are no longer disoriented and know exactly which way to go - under the wheelhouse toward the Allies’ side of sewers. But in ain’t that easy, there’s an Ally prone under the pipe, better get behind the wall and get a nade in there.


Ok, we’re at the stairs almost under the wheelhouse, better hope your team is holding the bridge or you’re not likely to make it across. The allies have the bridge, better turn around and try to get into wheelhouse and drop into sewers that way, you may avoid the trolls under the bridge. Wait a minute, your mates up top are taking the bridge, help them out by getting under the wheel and tossing a 'nade to the bridge. But make sure to check the corners first, may be an enemy MG in any one of them, either under the wheelhouse or under the bridge.


Alright, made it to the enemy stairs to their sewers, only one nade left, do I peek or throw the 'nade? There is sure to be an MG or Thompson-wielding Ally down there, not likely to find a rifle or sniper in the sewers, certainly not a sane one. Hold your 'nade and either bum rush him, or crouch on the stairs and get him. Wait, another! Thankfully your buddy got that one while you reloaded. Wow, can’t believe you made it this far? Well you've only just passed halfway, the hard part is yet to come.


You make it to the next corner and are one turn away from their second ladder. You think no one is waiting for you there? Hah! An MG, maybe even a rocket or one of those crazy snipers are hanging out below the second ladder. Time to use your grenade, hustle down to second ladder as soon as your 'nade explodes, or a new wave of Allies will appear quickly to overwhelm you.


Now the choice, up the second ladder, or continue to the first for all the glory? Either way you can be a hero. You decide to go up second ladder. Better look before you climb or you may be staring into the barrel of an auto, or even a rocket. Looks clear, and for once no one is camped above the ladder waiting for the awkward moment when you are defenselessly climbing off the ladder. Catch you breath and get ready to run. Oh, I hope you picked up an enemy weapon on the way, you are in enemy territory and the sound of your MP 40 or MP 44 (you probably wouldn't have made it so far with anything else) will alert the enemy.


Get through the courtyard and either jump the wall for the second flag and Allies’ sniper house (watch out you don’t get shot in the butt now) or straight out to Main street to flank the Allies attacking the bridge. Let’s jump the wall, avoid second flag, shoot the sniper in the back of the head and run into the sniper house. If you dare, punch the MG in his kidneys and his MG is yours. Better let your buddies know you took sniper house, you will need their support to stay alive. Uh-oh, they know you’re there, and the rest of your team is held up on bridge. Hide in the bathroom, take out one or two, but your minutes are now numbered.


Respawn and do it again! That is a glimpse of the repetitive, but always different running of the sewers in Kalt. See you there.
