Hey everyone,

I am looking to get a new computer in September and pass this one down since I've been using it for almost 4 years. I have a budget of $600 and I need a decent gaming tower that I will be able to play all the new released games that are coming out and games that will be coming out.

I am in Canada so it must be a Canadian company as shipping will be a lot less.

You may want to save up a bit more if at all possible. I don't know what you want included in your budget (OS, monitor, etc?) but I found the basics for a pretty good gaming PC are hard to find workable for under MAYBE $750. Maybe someone more experienced can help though

You can build a machine for that if you find some good sales during this fourth of July holiday. However as mentioned already, the operating system (OEM version) will run you somewhere in the woods of $140 before tax & shipping. Basically at the end of the day the OS, tax, shipping & handling is what will bring you over the budget of $600. That is if you truly want a mid range gaming rig. I would say high end rigs are going to run you at least $800 to $1,000.

You can get a decentish rig for $600, but you could do a lot better if you can get your OS for cheaper (there's student programs and other ways to get it) or increase your budget a little bit. Plus things will be different in September, so post again then.
But here's what I would recommend right now. Without the cost of the OS in this you could step up to a 7850 and a slightly better PSU and case.

I have a monitor and everyone else, I pretty much just need a tower and components. I will have more then $600 to work with so you could probably expand the budget to $700-$800 but that's as high as I can go. There will most likely be back to school specials come September so maybe I should wait to post till then and then gather all of your thoughts / suggestions.

Well there's always ways to get windows for free, and to save even a little bit more money save your old HDD and simply wipe it, but before doing that take a usb and copy over the files that you want to save.

Here's a price idea for a build:

$200 cpu
$60 case
$300 gpu
$125 mobo
$70 psu
$40 ram

As a previous poster said though, things will be much different with prices since new lines of gpus will be coming out, and I'm sure cpu prices will drop as well. If you can wait till black friday deals though with newegg or tiger direct you could score some awesome deals too.

Depending if you're building your own or having them do it for you it may be a while. GL with your build. Oh and where are you from in Canada?

3 Weeks? That's really rough man call them up and demand that you receive that ram man. I've never had that happen with me at least with the US warehouses that newegg has.

Yeah I price matched the RAM online, Tiger Direct had it on sale, and I got it from NCIX.com As well as my SteelSeries Mouse. I got my mouse within 4 days, and my RAM still on Back order .

Alright ladies and gentlemen, it is time to start building a new computer. The budget is still the same as in the original post.

I signed up for various newsletters (newegg.ca; tigerdirect.ca) and actually found a decent PC starting at $299

Specs (ordered 2 1/2 years ago)
CPU: Phenom II X4 820 (2.8GHz Quad Core)
Motherboard: Biostar N68S3B GeForce Socket AM3
RAM: Patriot Gaming i5 8GB DDR3 1333MHz 9-9-9 Kit 2x4GB (recently warrantied for some Patriot Viper 1666MHz)
HDD: Seagate 1TB LP Serial ATA HD 5900/32MB/SATA-3G
ODD: Samsung Internal SATA 22X DVDRW Black
CPU Cooler: Stock (replaced once)
CASE: Thermaltake V2 Mid Tower ATX Case with 450W PSU

That was the bundle for $299, i added on Windows 7 64bit for another $99. From tigerdirect.ca, with taxes and shipping to New Brunswick it came upto $499.97, I then added a 1GB PCI Express video card (about $60) and some fans for cooling (about $30).

Just look at barebone kits on various sites and see what they have to offer, I recommend at least a decent speed CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 1GB Video card but you might wanna aim a bit higher since you want to play the latest games.


Oh, and thanks to the one who posted the PCPARTBUILDER site, I've been slowly pricing some parts for a new PC and its going to help alot
