The biggest headache with Internet

alright, ill try to explain this. over the duration of one night i was unable to access the internet. i just got onto firefox and i couldnt load the eGO page. i tried internet explorere and the same problem occurred. i called Comcast to see if it was a problem on their end and they said that everything looked good and sent out a tech guy. he came and all that he found out was that my dad's laptop works fine when its directly into the modem. but this is the weirdest part: I can run Steam. I got on to use offline mode and it started updating TF2, this was weird because i could not get the Steam homepage to load or the update page. but i can play TF2 online.

so i basically cannot figure anything out and im missing the road trip right now

(this also does not allow Teamspeak to work)

please help!!

All I can say is do a power cycle.....you unplog your router/modem and plug it back in

Do you do Spyware/Adware checks? Could be a problem with that, or check to see if your Firewall has messed up (Hardware and software versions).

sounds like its time to reformat. whenever i get ghosts in the machine i just wipe 'em clean with a fresh install of windows and nine times out of ten that fixes it.

As someone suggested, I would seriousely consider doing a complete spyware and virus check. This in the past has been the root cause for a similar problem with one of my customers. The piece of malware was basically blocking or redirecting cirtain types of internet traffic.

A family member of mine accross the country had a similar problem where web browsers would not work but email did. His problem was solved with a format. (only because I couldnt remote desktop to the slowest dialup in the world).

I have also seen this type of problem be caused by other things. Open your command prompt and see if you can ping a website that does not work in FireFox. type "ping www.edgegamers.org". That will check if it can find it and check if it can ping it. If it cannot find it - you have a dns problem. if it cannot ping it then try typing "tracert www.edgegamers.us" and see how far it gets from your house to texas.

If you have a DNS problem, in the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" and scroll to your ethernet controller. It will tell you your ping, as well as your DNS addresses. write them down. Right click on your network places and go to proporties. open the proporties for your ethernet card. one of the tabs will let you type in your own DNS servers. enter in the ones your wrote down AS well AS: 4.2.2.2 (most reliable DNS server on the face of the planet) - restart computer and repeat ping test.

Report in so we know where to go from here.

alright. so heres the end of the story. after running multiple spyware and virus scans i found absolutely nothing. i was extremely frustrated and tried the very last thing i could think of. i took the ethernet jack from my old computer and put it in my new one. and, as im typing this message, i currently have full internet. somehow my ethernet jack just died out, or halfway died, or something. anyhoo, after a full week (minus a couple of hours) i have internet back. that was the crappiest week ever thanks for the help yall.
