Questions about upgrading

Hello,

Im thinking about upgrading my desktop pc a little.

My desktop atm:
- 8GB DDR3 1666 Memory
- ASUS HD 7850 2GB Videocard
- AMD Phenom X4 965 3.40 Ghz
- 128GB SSD + 250GB HD + 1TB HD + 1TB External HD.
- Motherboard: Asrock Extreme 3 970

Im thinking about buying another 8GB so I have 16GB.
And buying the AMD FX-8120 (3,1G) Black 8-Core 16MB Boxed 125W AM3+.
And maybe buying another SSD for adobe software, would this help or would I barely notice? Atm photoshop is on my HD.

I play games like COH2 and do a lot of photoshop work. Im just not sure if the extra 8GB will make it faster and if the CPU is any good.

Do you notice any slowdown? If so, in what applications? Your system seems fine and you probably don't need more RAM. Easy way to tell, open programs you normally do and then check the Task Manager > Performance tab and check "Available" "Physical Memory".

You'll probably want to upgrade the CPU as that is your weakest link, the only thing is, you will have to upgrade your motherboard too. You have a socket AM3 but the new FX processors need socket AM3+.

Ah then you're ok. I figured you had an AM3 motherboard.
 
Nop:) What you think about putting photoshop on an SSD disk? Will it run, start and save files faster?

And how much faster is that CPU? Because its only 50 euro difference.
 
Having your apps installed on an SSD will tremendously increase loading and saving performance if the data files that the program uses are also on that SSD. For example, if you install PS on your SSD but the data files are on your rotational drive, loading up the program will be faster but opening an existing file will probably be about the same. Regardless, once things are loaded up, its more your CPU and RAM that affect performance.

As far as your CPU recommendation, here are the PassMark benchmarks for each processor.

965 = 4304
8120 = 6622

However, for a few dollars more, I would get the 8150 which scores 7748.

Thanks, where did you find those benchmarks? Because Im always curious what other CPU's are almost as good or a little beter.
 
8350 and more ram ... Photoshop programs love memory the more you throw at it the more it loves it
