Everyone is just going to tell you to watch their favorites. But to be honest, you need to watch something will be appeal to you. If you like action, fantasy, romance, blah blah. Watch stuff like that. But Shakugan no Shana is often considered one of the best anime along with Toradora!, Zero no Tsukaima, any Rie Kugimiya role, and Evangelion.

Also you should watch currently airing anime such as: Danganronpa, Blood Lad, The World God Only Knows season 3, ect.
