Upgrading Android OS

So I recently pulled up an old thread talking bout upgrading phones to the latest Android OS (latest being Jellybean). From what I have been told, my phone (Samsung Epic aka Galaxy S) is considered a lightweight phone due to its memory bank. I would like to get suggestions on some possible choices for upgrades. I have another Samsung Epic that I can use for testing purposes (its still possible to activate the phone, which im not worried about). Im just curious to find out if its possible to give the phone a lil performance boost, while allowing more freedom.

I recently read an article about how some developers are making simple 1-click install packages for those who arent exactly leet in the area of flashing phones or upgrading the OS on them. I would also like to get input on these as well. Keep my options & choices available.

IMO these are the best options available on the market right now:

If you want the promise of good software upgrades happening, the iPhone or nexus 4 are your best bets, especially since with the htc one all updates have to go through cell carrier Q/A that can be a complete impediment on your ability to upgrade Android on your phone on the future. Note that this is only on carrier-subsidized variants of the handset. Of course, custom ROMs will always be available, unless your carrier prevents you from unlocking the bootloader of the phone. (AT&T and Verizon comes to mind)

You can't make a 1-click install package for a ROM without flashing your phone.

Maybe there's a graphical installer (Aroma Installer comes to mind), but you would have to flash a custom recovery first and then boot into it.

Apparently you didnt understand the thread title. I am looking to upgrade the OS, not the hardware. I already have an iphone 4 & am looking to sell it soon (unfortunately all the $$ will go towards paying my past due bill which my dad takes care of). By the way, I know that the performance will be a bit of a hinderance with jellybean on my phone, but if itll help to override the whole idea of me having to go to my applications area just to click on my phone and messages area just to send a text message, then so be it.

Not sure why my phone is doing this, but it decided to switch from having the phone & messages icons on the front to switching to one icon that says apps. Very annoying I must say. Btw this was completely random I must say.

If that's what you want, just get a different launcher.
 
I know that I am ressing an old topic, but thankfully its not over a page away. Anyways, im thinking about experimenting on installing Jellybean onto another galaxy s phone I have (same model as my current sph-d700).

Heres my question: should I download CM 10.0 or should I go for the latest 10.1? Does it really make that much of a difference?
 
as far as the one click upgrade you are at the mercy of the provider to release something like that.

but if you are willing to read a little check out that forum, they have separate forums for most of the phones out there. goto the forum for your phone and look for a sub forum called all things root.
