Just saw it today. BEST SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER EVAH!

Amazing visuals, fantastic steady fight scenes, and an overall nostalgic experience. The acting was incredibly mediocre (seriously, Charlie Day was one of the best actors. That should say something.) but largely overshadowed by everything else.

SPOILERS:

Majorly disappointed/sad that we weren't able to see Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha that much in action.

END SPOILERS

Go see it!!

Saw in on Sunday. Pretty solid movie, I loved the fight scenes. But why didn't they just use the sword from the beginning?

I'm going to be seeing it this Friday, hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Saw in on Sunday. Pretty solid movie, I loved the fight scenes. But why didn't they just use the sword from the beginning?

Speculation/Possible reasons:

A) The brothers seemed pretty cocky during the whole fight (though Yancy seemed more level-headed) and didn't regard the Kaiju as a true menace.

B) The sword was brand new. They did refit and reformat Gipsy Danger five years after it was torn apart.

C) Raleigh lost his brother and literally "felt" his death. Not only that but both he and the Jaegar received extensive damage so he probably wasn't thinking straight at the moment.

I was really hoping this would've been the Evangelion movie it was originally going to be. l still want to go see this though!

It was never slated to be an Evangelion movie. Technically this should have been At the Mountains of Madness, but between Sanctum performing lower than expected and Battleship cost way to god damn much, Universal cancelled the project. Del Toro then went on to make this film.

Anyway, yeah. Acting is a little shaky, but you should really see this film. Also, see it in theaters, it's just that kind of movie. Watching a proper release at home or a cam on your 15 in monitor wont do the film justice at all.
