People who have a mind to take another life don't need guns. They can use a rock, car, rope, knife, metal pipe, brick, bare hands, etc. Those are the people that I carry to defend against.
Not everyone should carry a gun. Many have too hot of tempers.
Cubey I think your 80 million is a little low... I think there are that many in just the northeastern states
Yes, infact it is 1 out of 9709 people in America die from gun related deaths. Compared to 1/400,000 in the UK(other European countries are similar) and as little as 1/1,666,000 in Japan.

The weapons law for Japan begins by stating "No-one shall possess a fire-arm or fire-arms or a sword or swords", and very few exceptions are allowed. To be blunt, it works.
And sadly it is MUCH easier to kill, in the heat of the moment, or preplanned, if you are using a gun rather than a rock or a knife as you suggested, and leaves the intentional homicide rate for america again much higher than in transposing gun controlling countries.
In 1996 Australia banned semi-automatic weapons and "The American Journal of Law and Economics reported in 2010 that firearm homicides in Australia dropped 59 percent between 1995 and 2006. In the 18 years before the 1996 laws, there were 13 gun massacres resulting in 102 deaths, according to Harvard researchers, with none in that category since."
The UK had legal handguns until 1996, but due to semi regular school shootings, we banned them, and have had nothing similar since.

"Not everyone should carry a gun. Many have too hot of tempers. " Sums it up completely, we cannot trust that all people will use them safely, so why leave it up to the individual to judge themselves as unworthy? Because they wont. Leave these weapons to professionals to protect you, don't take it upon yourself. We have a similar rule for eGO, try not to admin people who have attacked you directly, leave it to someone else, you are more likely to make the wrong call.
