System seems dead,power supply is fine. It did this once before & I prayed for her to work & she did 5 days after but now I think shes gone. I shut it down last weekend to clean her & remove a bummed HP DVD RW+ but she.....she just won't start for me anymore.I just unplugged her and will attempt to raise her from the dead. Does anyone have any opinions just incase??? I'm stuck playing PS2 & killing just ain't the same. missinaction.
 
you say it stopped working after you cleaned it my suggestion would be to double all connections coming from power supply to mother board , cpu etc wiring for the power switch make sure it is still plugged into motherboard and also make sure you didn't accidentally flip switch on back of power supply (cause it wont start with it off)
 
Thank you for replying. This has happened to me before, it seems that my motherboard puts my power supply in some sort of sleep mode. I did a connection check & everything was fine so I unplugged the power cord & left it off for a couple hours (passed out from gaming withdrawal), plugged her back in & WOOHOO she started back up & is working just fine. See y'all later this afternoon, BF:BC2 slaughter time.
 
May I ask how old the power supply is? I notice how old all your hardware is and kinda curious about the age of the power supply. I am just simply wondering if it may start being on its last legs. Just something to think about in the near future.
 
PSU is as old as the system 2005 & it has been tested,runs like new.I've read that something to do with the motherboard or nvidia SB puts the PSU into a sleep mode which makes it look like its dead.

Its ocz. There's your problem. Its probably died. Just have a friend come over with his psu and try it or try a second one u may have, or lastly get a psu tester n test it :D good luck

power supplies don't age the same for everyone.. it all depends on what load it has been under and for how long. If his system was near maxing the psu, it will/would fail sooner then a psu only running at 70% peak over its lifetime.

2 factors affect psu longevity:

1) the ability of the cooling fan to remove heat (this includes cleaning it of dust)
2) Peak load.... running a psu at Maximum Peak load will substantially shorten its lifetime

I always try to keep my Peak load under 80% when compiling parts for a new build.

I always try to keep a strong power supply! Pedro-next time you clean your computer-always assume operator error-it's always my fault when something goes wrong! xD
