Not sure how to put the problem about my mic.

Heres the deal: When I talk in-game people say it sounds screechy and "dhajksdghfalshfk." When I test my mic in options it sounds just like how my fellow gamers put it. So I set the transmit volume to max, apply it, and then put the transmit volume to minimum, and apply it. Thats probably the only way to pass the mic test with no excessive screeching at the moment for me. So what I'm asking for is some advice or help to fix this problem. I don't like having to use this method everytime I either join a server or change to a different map. Please help me!

Try checking your windows sound recording options. Your system may be defaulting to that every time you load a new map.

Open up volume control.
Goto the options menu then properties.
On the properties window select your sound device in "Mixer device" dropdown and check the checkbox for "Recording" then click ok.
Make sure it's selected for your microphone to be our record device.

You could even look in advanced controls and try turning Mic Boost on or off.

What sound card do you have? Steam games try to 'solve problems' before thye happen by auto forcing microphone settings to be 'what valve thinks they should be' and some cards have different value then valv's default.

I used to have a problem where steam would switch me input from mic2 (my mic) to mic1 (no mic) everytime i joined a server or changed maps. I had to change a config file to make sure that didnt happen.
