This helped alot, basically go to www.ninite.com and check classic start under utilities section.

helps you bring back that beloved start menu while still able to access the touch screen gui page.

I believe windows 8.1 will be bringing the start button back by default.

I've had it since win 8 was installed. it set me back $3. Used a program called "Start is Back"

At the shop, we used this one program (can't remember the name off the top of my head) that gave you the Win7 start menu but with a shell in the center of the button. It operates exactly like the old menu so you don't really have to worry about trying to learn a new menu style or anything. If what Blue said is true, I MIGHT end up trying Win8. I still don't like it that much, but I can change.

ya the one i linked is the one with the shell for the start button, works great and have three choices as far as layout goes (xp, classic, and 7)

one reason i wanted to go back to 7 was because I thought it will use less resources than 8, but my computer seems fast enough to handle 8 to make really no difference between the two.
